Federal judge orders Rhode Island to stop collecting truck tolls
i live here, and i couldn;t be any happier, i always said it was VERY arbitrary...
and it was just said on the radio show, that a LOT of the money WAS NOT going into the highway fund......like wow, who woulda thunk it would..?????
i am certain the state will keep the gantrys up and maybe perhaps, start collecting tolls on ALL vehicles...
that'll piss off the voters...
g'bye goobner McKee......
Truck tolls MUST END in RI.....!!!!!!

it's on the radio now too, the state is going to appeal this.

Between the federal road taxes, the state road taxes and the other fees like licensing and registration fees, any public road that is funded by any of these collected fees and taxes should never be a toll road.
Grubby#1, RockinChair, DRTDEVL and 1 other person Thank this. -
now, a toll road like the NJTP, IS not a federally funded road, thus, it can be tolled.
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) is a state agency responsible for maintaining the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway, which are two toll roads in the U.S. state of New Jersey.[1] The agency is headquartered in Woodbridge Township, New Jersey.
The NJTA was created in 1949 to oversee construction and maintenance of the New Jersey Turnpike. In 2003, the authority assumed control of the Garden State Parkway, which had previously been maintained by an agency known as the New Jersey Highway Authority (NJHA).bzinger Thanks this. -
Virginia wanted to toll I-81 for trucks only and actually got an exemption from the law banning tolls on federally funded highways. Then they bickered for the 5 years the exemption lasted, never came up with a plan and lost the ability to toll the highway.
Flat Earth Trucker, bzinger and buddyd157 Thank this.
