Makes me wonder if the National Forest Service or National Park Service have replanting clear cut and or burnt lands guidelines and procedures.

Most of the tree huggers do realize, but do not have the patience nor ambition to do anything on the required scale. Their light bulbs have always been dim at the best of times..........

    A little background:
Property I purchased was clear cut of anything with commercial lumber value, Only trees left were the fruit trees around the buildings and a few hip tall evergreens that where too much work to get to. Part of the harvest agreement with the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was that the property must be replanted with seedlings on an approx 6 foot grid.

DNR made it's decision with input from the lumber industry. That grid my be o.k. for a bunch of nice flat thousand foot each side grids that are dedicated to timber production. My opinion is that grid is too tight for a non "timber production property" plot in an otherwise rural residential zoned area.

Most Equipment is 6 foot or more across. Even the smaller track steers are over 6 foot across. This makes the property a challenge to maintain the undergrowth. The weeds have grown to about 6 foot height this year, dwarfing the now knee high trees that were planted. Some property across the street was replanted a couple of decade ago. The trees are about a decade from being prime harvest. That timber stand is not healthy, even the deer walk around it. The ground is a solid mat of tree debris that would rapidly catch fire and spreed. It is essentially unmaintainable other than with a hand crew. I am actually considering ripping out about 2 thirds of my trees and replace them (2 out 1 replace) with something other than fir, like say cedar. Unfortunately I will most likely not live long enough to see the healthy more diverse forest if I did so.

    Back to your original point:
Problem for me is the tree huggers would run to the timber industry for data to decide how to replant and would end up mono-cropping everything with no thoughts to maintaining the young forest.

Well, to be fair the gauges in that picture aren’t very clear so the benefit of the doubt may be in order.

Gee Whiz Wally, It was weird in the 70's and on. Seems normally weird nowadays. Cain't put a sensible something on it, towards it or in it, just from it, against the wind with flashes in the sky, warning some they're gonna cry. :biggrin_2553::king::icon_jokercolor::Screwdriver:

Probably should just be thankful they waited till after labor day?

Or is it just a case of they couldn't get enough semi-slave (millennials and retirees) labor till now?
