Not sure it really matters. Oil temp on the acert cats is a computer generated number based off water temp, engine load and such. I'm 98% sure of that. Don't believe me? Look in your oil pan for a temp sensor

The fan engagement is based on the engine coolant temperature.. engine oil temperature is Irrelevant

    cke Thanks this.

IMHO accerts run too #### hot...normal op temp is approximately 195....ECM set to kick fan at 208 if memory serves....heads toast by 225

    cke Thanks this.

Not sure on the acert’s, but on an ISM there is an oil pan sensor that feeds a gauge in the dash, and a sensor that feeds the ECM, that will trigger an engine shut-down if engine oil temp gets too high.

Yeah I'm sure. But somewhere along the line cat did away with the sensor. It's just a computer generated number based off other things. I don't understand why

    cke Thanks this.

I’d be more worried if oil ran too cool I don’t think a diesel could get oil hot enough to break down .. as long as oil pressure is fine at your operating temperature your fine.. cold oil doesn’t burn off moisture and it turn acidic..

It doesn't trigger the fan, coolant temp only.
