I'm a new broker and I'm trying to find produce shippers mainly in Texas area. I was dispatching reefer trucks for the past 2 years before I decided to get the broker license. I've been calling and emailing for the past 5 months with no luck! It's beginning to feel stressful because either they say they sell directly to customer and customer finds the truck or they just simply hang up on me. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Please no sarcasm. I'm really trying hard to provide for my family. Thanks in advance!

That's because it's the receiver or a third party buyer that's paying the freight.

Many times, buyer has its own carrier or brokerage. Produce brokers are a breed of their own. They will match up numerous buyers, shop produce at shippers, give terms, hire truck, and deliver to receivers. It’s work! Some have argued, we don’t need brokers.. produce may be a prime example how they have their place.

You unfortunately picked a really tough time to get into the industry, as demand in the market vs the amount of capacity available is very low. If you can stick it out for 16-18 months, you should be in a really good spot when the pendulum swings in the other direction.
