I had a load yesterday that ran Tampa Bay Florida area. Since some roads were blocked off and out of service and the surrounding areas it took a little longer to get in there. I casually mentioned this to a friend driver of mine and he said, “I hope you’re getting some extra change for that, cause I guarantee you your company is.” Not sure if he was accurate or not but he said he had been running loads to Florida and his company was paying him one and a half times his normal CPM as they were getting a lot. Especially for supplies and food products etc.

Anyone else heard this, anyone else been to Florida since the storm?

It’s true. Urgent loads always get more.

I ran some FEMA loads to the Carolinas one time. We were told not to use a log book because FEMA loads are exempt. I was hauling bags of ice.

Yeah more for the trucking company, nothing more for me. Lol Tampa was a mess! And the GPS is haven’t caught up which roads are blocked and closed off and sometimes you go down one thinking you can get through and then you can’t.

Owner operators make bank on it too if the broker isn’t a conman. But company drivers? Not so much. Unless your exempt from hours then you can negotiate hazardous pay I guess since you got to drive over your 11 meaning inconvenience for you.

Well as a company driver you don’t have the skin in the game then owner operator does so of course they should make more. I was just curious. The other driver I ran into also a company driver was at least thrown a chicken bone in his direction. it is a mess down that way. Don’t recommend it.

Only the western parts of FL are a mess. I delivered to Jacksonville then went to the house near Gainesville and then down to Stuart without issues.

that’s the issue in this economy Company drivers will accept 200 extra miles a day as a good day instead of negotiating let’s say .20 more per mile. That meaning the guy who wants to negotiate won’t have a leg to stand in because 99% of the other drivers will take the load without questioning anything.

Are you willing to work for 75% of your normal rate when you have to bounce 500 mile for a load? Or they take a lower paying load to keep the truck moving towards a better paying lane?
