So I'm trying to get payed the most I can without asking for so much I price myself out of a job and it seems like oversize driver pay is all over the place in this country so any input is appreciated if you'd like to offer up your pay or what you'd pay hourly. but my experience is or whatever
    7 years with CDL
5 doing oversize up to 8 axles hauling 90% construction, paving and AG equipment with hydraulic 55t
On my record I've got one log book oos and 2 parking tickets

The specific job I'm looking at is regional all AG equipment up to 8 axle rgn and some step deck. Thanks!

Considering that you will be new there, and have to work up in seniority, and really are not all that experienced...i consider more than 20 years experienced, you could ask to start around $28/hr

Don't worry, if you work hard, are reliable, and don't abuse the trucks, the boss should be offering substantial raises after 2 years.

My heavy haul drivers in Canadian dollars make anywhere from $40 - 55/ hour depending on experience and what they are moving, and where they move it to.
My newly trained heavy hauler is still greener than grass, she only makes 40/hour, but will keep making more with time.
We all have to start somewhere.

    Kudos for training new drivers
I always get a chuckle from people complaining about can’t find experienced workers when they won’t train new workers:
It’s like the old joke when IBM was spending a ton of money training their employees and a executive asked “what if we train them and they leave ?”

and the other guy replies ; “ what if we don’t train them and they stay ?”

I enjoy training people, so long as they are truly willing to learn, and listen.

Someone who is stubborn, argumentative, and doesn't really have the desire to learn, i will get rid of quickly.
My latest student is named Melissa, she has been a pleasure to train, smart woman, and wants to be great as a driver. She also has a good sense of humor, so we spend a lot of time laughing.
I asked her a couple weeks ago if I could stuff her inside a skidder tire, and roll her down a mountain.
She laughed and laughed, and then said not yet, but sure after i take out a hundred million dollar life insurance policy on her...she wanted her death to be worth something.
I love a good sense of humor.

    Lol
When I was in elementary school we had tires on the playground , and a hill,
We’d cram a kid in and roll em down

When My nephew was 20 he took the CDL class at
The local community college, and got hired by a small regional heavy haul company , that trains new drivers .
The newbies ride along with an experienced driver for 9 months at half pay , then get assigned a truck .
They had him doing in state loads before he turned 21 .

two years later they had him regularly doing a 16 wide load that gets moved 1100 miles, but he’s an exceptional learner and driver . They’ve washed out a few drivers that just didn’t have the situational awareness required for oversize & overweight loads , or just couldn’t get proficient using an 18 speed or that just couldn’t follow the permitted route and plan their trip and stops etc .
But the company will take on newbies who have a squeaky clean criminal , credit and driving record .

owner of the company jokes that they used to find drivers who wanted to learn heavy haul and have them pass the background check, and now they have to find people who can pass the background check and teach them how to drive a oversize truck .

Siinman, Landincoldfire, CAXPT and 2 others Thank this.

I have a few people with a criminal past that work for me, doesn't matter to me.
They did something stupid, and I get to tease them about it now.
All are great employees, and people.

If anything I am sad that I wasn't there for the fun with them. A couple are lucky they didn't die, but had they, at least they would have gone out having fun.

I believe that most people who don't have a criminal record, were just lucky to have not been caught.
I've got a record, my daughter has a record, my wife has a record, doesn't make them bad people.

I'm also boring, but managed to get arrested 4 times, admitting guilt twice, and found not guilty twice more. My last time was for snowmobiling down the road.
