All I can go by as a wannabe is their SAFESTAT info. The company (Transam) has grown by over 100 units in power unit count since 2007. Interesting for a down economy. Their Driver SEA isn't great but is moving downward. Their Vehicle SEA is in the 30s, I think that's good. ISS-D Recommendation: INSPECT, maybe not so good. If you look at total vehicle miles divided by number of drivers you see about 116,000 miles per year per driver (paid miles? I don't know).

Swift has good scores but it's a huge company compared to TransAm. Might be an apples and oranges deal comparing these two. Maybe some of the experienced drivers will weigh in with more info. Good luck and I hope you make the decision that works best for you!

Go with Swift. Mostly drop and hook, i.e. more miles, quick turns. Trans Am is a reefer company, mostly live load and unloads with lumpers involved and weird appointment times like 2 or 4 in the morning at grocery warehouses.

Bill has driven for TransAm, Celadon, Prime and Melton; of the four companies TransAm was the best of the bunch. We now very much regret not hanging in with them for at least a year. However, from what I have read on this forum recently, they may be switching to only hiring drivers who want to lease(?) Panhandle Flash has been with them for over a year and he is very knowledgeable about what's going on with TA. In my opinion they are a good place to start out, especially looking back on the mistakes we have made since we left there. Good Luck!!!
