Thought I was just getting a skidded coil. Never secured a load like this before. If I run a chain through the front and back racks will that be enough to secure it? The forklift operator says just throw the straps over the top like in the picture.
Help me secure this load!

They are banded to the racks so that's good, straps are good but the front look a tad Sketch. Just secure it like they are pallets. Two straps in the front racks, two in the back. Not sure if legal, but I would do 1 strap on the rack itself and 1 on the products on the front.
Edit- make SURE those bands are tight, ask more if they are not tight, u don't want them loose in those racksFerrissWheel, Tb0n3 and A Bug Thank this. -
This is going to be more unnerving than hauling a lumber load

I would drive a few miles, stop and check everything, then go 50 miles ,stop and check again, make sure everything is staying tight and in place.

Chains through the racks is good too.

Typed a complete reply thinking steel. Then zoomed in. Is that Slit Copper? Looks like straps are distorted the coil already. I'll wait to reply till I know more.
But loader is a moron and should load racks facing the other direction. Side banded forward.Last edited: Nov 11, 2022

Im not a thief, but every once in a while you see something that makes you consider if being honest is worth it
(assuming only 40k lbs, thats 100-125k SCRAP price)
To the question though, i think id look at using straps to unitize them maybe 2 straps per 3 sets, then just strap over the racks themselves.
Or maybe hook forward, strap rearward on a more severe diagonal (ideally with a rubber or felt edge protector) to pull the coils back into their racks and then chain or strap the rackFerrissWheel, jamespmack and Kyle G. Thank this. -
It's in a Conestoga.
It'll ride.
Seriously, I would chain the racks as well.FerrissWheel, Bean Jr., Kyle G. and 1 other person Thank this. -
Pictures of what you finally decided to do.
Bean Jr. Thanks this.
