Blair, I dealt with them quite a bit hauling steel out of the local plant.

After the plant employees went back to work after a 6 month strike, CHR was doing very little with them.

The broker I dealt with was actually a good guy. He had told me CHR was looking to minimize their employees, and have the drivers do more of the footwork before they called about the load.
Not sure what all the footwork is…

Yeah, CH Robinson can just go to hell then. Already take it up the rear pulling their loads anyway, usually. They aren't any better than any other bottom feeder broker I ever had to deal with.

I believe this is old news. At least it is to me from a broker I work with. They laid off a lot of people according to him a little while back. I sent the link to him the other day and he said it was the stuff he told me about a month or more ago. He is one of the middle brokers that works there and has a few guys that work for him. None of his people got touched but CHR keeps changing stuff up and looks like they are trying to be more about online bidding. Keep taking stuff away from real people. I have seen it a lot and he has complained a lot when I ask about loads to far out now as well. He can't even touch them if they are more than 4 days out.

    TallJoe and blairandgretchen Thank this.

If they lay people off, that's a shame.
They still have their reps working in the country, not in Pakistan or Guatemala.
They are into online bidding but so what, those loads still are overseen by reps and mire often than not, they can help with the rate. You can still call your rep directly and try to ask for more.
I hope they won't become another Uber or Convoy.

    JoeyJunk and Siinman Thank this.

Me too. I love my rep at CHR since we started out at the same time. He first started as a rep when I first got my authority and has moved up to a top guy now. So I can get any information from him on the company. We both are big football fans so we bull sheet a lot over the years and have become pretty fond of each other without the freight. He tells me how bad it is getting and helps me understand the market with the big guys. Always good to see what is going on with different people in the industry.

These companies are no different than drivers or any other company that’s letting people go

When it’s busy then they will take whoever they can get to make a buck on
Once it slows then they’ll get rid of the under-performers as the pros are able to get the job done

I see posts Dailey how rates and jobs are down
    Not for everyone
Those who complained or turned back that load for a better one are now being remembered

Those who took the good with the bad and got it done are and will be in demand

C.H. employee getting axed..."I hope there is a severance package that is being offered, our profits had been through the roof before the recession"

C.H. manager..."We will pay your remaining vacation time"

C.H. employee..."But I've worked here 6 years, I deserve more than just a few leftover vacation days!"

C.H. manager..."Sorry, that's all we have in it"

    oh the irony

I agree with this in a lot of way but to add a little. They do tend to cut the high end paying guys when they have to many guys getting high pay. This just happened with some of the CHR guys as well. When I ran a company and we had slow times it was the same. Keep the good up and coming and get ride of the guys that had taken jobs for granted, Always keep the lead men and the dedicated.

    GYPSY65 Thanks this.
