Hot shot question

So our brother is leased on to our company as a hot shot. He has had a total of 3 inspections and this is his 2 nd month driving under our authority. The inspection he got today officer said he pulled him in because his truck said leased to but dot officer said it should be “operated by”. This inspection took place in Iowa. His previous inspections one in Tennessee and one in Washington state did not have a problem of the wording on the side of his truck. Just wondered how any other hotshotters are doing it. If their trucks are for example abc LLC leased to 123 or if they put abc LLC “operated by 123.

 

Yes we just didn’t understand why IA is saying it needs to be “operated by” verses leased to. I guess we may have to find the definitive answer on this or have him not go to Iowa or just change the letters to say “operated by”. I’m certain I have seen many many hot shots out here with leased to on the side of their truck

 

He has his company name
Then leased to our company name
Than the us dot number.

 

IA dot says that leased to needs to read “operated by” so today he got a warning on this so we sure don’t want him to get a ticket. But yes, hot shots are pulled in and messed with way more than semi drivers.

 

I’m wondering if this is a question OOIDA could help me with or if I should just call a few hot shot companies and inquire how they have it on their o/o equipment. Idk. I was going to try calling today was got hung up at receiver.
