When I was buying my own fuel, I NEVER even considered the fuel tax. It's pretty much irrelevant as far as purchasing decisions go.

Our prices we get on the app already have taxes included. Pretty handy app, especially with how quick prices change anymore.

What would the best price on a 2019 International lt625 be that might be what I go with to buy.

I’m by no means a person who knows about engines, performance, and all that jazz, BUT, the company I drive for has nothing but internationals. They suck from a comfort perspective in my experience driving mine. It could be the way they have them spec’d as I have never driven one until now. These are automatic 12 speed trucks. Jerky like a KW and when you slow down when BT, it’ll dang near throw you through the windshield (almost like you’ve got the engine brake on high). Although, I will say my truck handles a lot better than I expected when pulling a heavy load. It’s like that’s what it wants to do. Uncomfortable seats. There is zero storage in these. I’m sure some have more, but my company gets stripped down models-about 4 cabinets over a single bunk, one small closet with a useless door that breaks easily, one drawer, no fridge (but the hole is there if you want to put one in), no inverter etc (due to all the heavy loads we pull-or they’re just cheap). Just my two cents worth.

edit to add: the 10 speed automatics were way worse as far as power and speed. You definitely did not pull out in traffic with those. ZERO pick up at all. The 12 speeds are much better.

It’s nothing fancy, a bare bones old heartland express truck with a Cummins X15 efficiency series. As soon as I bought it, I took it to Pittsburgh power and spent about $6k to have a diesel force cleaning (removes built up soot from the engine and after treatment system) had the DPF filter cleaned, a performance tune installed in the ECM (which gave me more pulling power, and increased fuel economy), and finally had a new intake manifold installed.

As an owner operator, my biggest expense is fuel, so I choose to run slower. It doesn’t cost me but a few minutes a day. I still get to where I’m going on time, and last week still averaged 636 miles a day. My 90 day average for fuel economy is 8.4mpg, and that’s with winter blended fuel. My normal cruising speed is 63mph. On two different runs in the past 10 days I actually bumped it up to 65mph.

I tell people all the time, I’m in business to be as profitable as possible, period. Not to look cool running down the road. This truck allows me to do that.

The only negative I’ve found with this set up, is that a had to replace the cam shaft and rockers at 423K miles. The X15 has had a history of cam issues, but other than that it’s been a solid truck.

The truck I am looking at is the 2021 elite edition with leather seats, key fobs, 13 speed manual transmission. They want $114,900. With a 1 year warranty and free towing. 330,000 miles. Has apu, refrigerator.

Understanding fuel tax is fairly relevant. My buddy would rather pay $4 a gallon in Missouri than pay $4.20 a gallon in Illinois. He doesn’t realize that Missouri fuel just cost him .20 more a gallon. That’s relevant.

And just out of curiosity, I just checked my company discounted fuel prices around St Louis and compared them to fuel in neighboring Illinois. I wish I was up there just so I could fuel in Illinois right now lol.

Current fuel tax in MO is .22.
Fuel tax in IL is .62.

    That’s worth understanding.

Fuel tax at the pump is actually a pre-tax paid on the assumption you are going to use all that fuel on that states roadways. You actually pay - or get reimbursed - when you file your mileage with IFTA.

    Or something to that effect…lol
