Here’s my problem.: 2019 Western Star 5700xe and the tractor brake lights (trailer isn’t affected) won’t turn off. I’ve disconnected all 3 air switches to the left of the column with no luck. Pulled fuses and relays, none. Unbolted the firewall to chassis cable and they went out. Reconnected and they’re back on. Pulled the top plug on the ECC (lights went out) and the ECC has voltage on the pins. I’m guessing the ECC is bad, but I can’t find the complete wiring diagram for it on EZ Wiring. I guess it’s possible it’s through putting the brake signal from something else. Any ideas other than throwing a $750 ECC on?

The body builder manuals are online somewhere, they had decent wiring diagrams, IIRC.

I had found them through Google, but it was for the 4900. I would assume they're available for the 5700.

You could always tap the truck taillights into the trailer circuit. Although that requires 4 taillights so you'll have turn and brake. I did that on my Carhauler, but if course that was much easier because both sets of circuits were right there at the tail already.

There was a recall on FL/Western Star for the brake lights staying on a couple of years ago.

Yes, that was for the switches that have already been swapped the 1990's style. Even with switches disconnected they are still on. How's the reefer business? Flatbed is sucking rotten eggs these days. I bought a reefer the other day, but it's a 1994 storage trailer lol. I have to dive back into DTNA Portal and see if I can find the right diagram. I am hoping someone here can give me the cheat code.

4900 and 5700 are completely different animals, I own one of each. DTNA Portal gives access to EZ wiring app for your VIN, but it's not easy to navigate. If you are the registered owner of a Freightliner/Western Star, I encourage everyone to sign up. You can look up parts just like your parts guy, wiring diagrams, troubleshooting, etc. If you link it to your local dealer, you'll get to see parts prices as well as inventory level at the dealer and the distribution center. My last choice is to link them to the trailer circuit but it is an option.

I didn't remember what they did, just had all of them go in for it.

Reefer's the same thing, goes up, goes down. Contract freight is still pretty good and steady.

Should be able to find it in there. Don't use it much unless the truck is out of warranty. Use a little more now because i can't get enough new ones
in the time frame i want.

You got any of that Florida contract freight, non-team? If I ever buy another it will be new, with the 500k bumper to bumper, and it will be traded at 499k. This one has 508k and it must know the bumper to bumper is over. I found the ECC pin out diagram, so have to check in the morning if the input is powered up. I'm kind of hoping it is so I can just run a new wire from the switch and be done.
In case someone pulls up this thread 8 years from now looking for diagrams, here's the pin for the ECC.

Not Bumper to bumper but Detroit does offer an extended on the motor/trans/emissions. 1 year/625 or 2 year 750. Put it on a few trucks because i couldn't get new ones in on time.
Only contract out of FL is for two trucks that run from PA and back twice a week. That's product right back to the farm.
