I just know...merger or not, I want nothing to do with E.W. Wylie or their freight. I have already told the wife to expect 1 of 2 things after New Years...a change of insurance when I find another non-Daseke company or my departure from trucking entirely and we deal with Obamacare with me working at least 1 full time job and a part time on the side.

I have no idea how the financials are setup but it wouldn't surprise me that Daseke pulls the trigger on big allocations such as what they announced. To me, that is a big nothing burger.

I thought you were paid a flat-rate and OD is just icing on the cake on top of that, why would that be bad?

I am paid a daily rate, just slightly over what Moore paid for a layover day. I need the mileage pay AND miles to make it worth being here. When pulling these OD loads, especially east of the rockies, the sunrise to sunset limitation this time of year cuts my miles down dramatically, and the few CPM they pay for OD loads doesn't make up for the loss of miles. I left Spokane on Sunday after the passes opened in ID, and I will deliver up near Roanoke Rapids, NC Friday between 10-12n....6 days for 26-2800 miles....under a normal load I could have ran 35-3800 miles in that time, at least I use to in the KW, in this Volvo, that will be #### near impossible. OD is simply not worth all the BS and loss of miles.

Don’t mean to kick a man when he’s down but we left Spokane on Saturday.

also my spitball number of $10k was surprisingly accurate.

this year to date I’ve made $16,524 in accessorial od pay. Using the new rates I would have made $26,519 for a raise of $9995 That’s 35.7 CPM average extra for od miles. I’ve done 74,134 od miles this year, not counting this trip.

Oh yeah...7 days for 2600 miles...that's even worse.

You have a lot more OD opportunities than me on bigger freight, and a hell of a lot better pulling truck. After the Wylie announcement, I have resigned myself not giving a flying fornication. No more months on the road at a time, no more OD...no more wasting time using the fuel card app to find the biggest savings at our fuel stops, not running my dick in the dirt...just gonna phone it in until I get a lead on something else. I rarely use the word hate when I refer to people because it's not my personality to actually hate people on a personal level...but I HATE E.W. Wylie and their two-faced, lying, backstabbing management... especially their leader. And I wouldn't piss on any of them if they were running across the company yard on fire...and I don't want to move their freight or help them prosper in any way...it would be like getting it in the ### by Satan himself...then having to thank him for it.

lmao #### lol. I gotta admit, this thread's been pretty boring. So much so in fact that I quit reading it. I guess it's interesting for those who like niche flatbed type of stuff, but that doesn't interest me at all. Especially with no drama involved. I'm not going to lie Snackbar, your threads are like Reality TV for me, and I don't have to pay a $10 subscription or a cable bill each month to get it!

This is EXACTLY what the doctor ordered to shock this thread back to life, and I for one can't wait! Just when I thought I was done with Snackbar's Threads, a gift from the Gods has reeled me back in:

You've already decided you're going to sabotage this outfit too so I guess I'm wasting my time but here it goes. You know Wylie from running a truck with their name on the door, I don't think that's happening here, not even close. You're being "partnered" at a corporate level that makes sense as you're both open deck outfits. How or why you think this effects you personally I have no idea. Just relax for a bit and see what happens because you have zero knowledge of anything at this point.

It all comes down to this...I want absolutely nothing to do with Wylie...none of their freight, none of their management visits...nothing. it's a good thing I wasn't in Arlington when the big turd was there because when it comes to that pile of donkey feces I have no filter on my mouth for the words that would've come out of it. And it's not a beef with SPD per say, it's just that I really don't care anymore, and I am tired of going out of my way time and again to help the company prosper...and now we have to do the same to move freight for a #### bag sister company....not me brother...not any more. I did my time in Wylie purgatory and I still cringe at the thought of doing anything to benefit them.

Well sir I believe someone mentioned that OD is an acquired taste. If you get to the level that @kylefitzy has reached the cash flow is likely pretty good. I remember spending time with one of our heavy haul guys going through numbers and he laid it out for me, “I basically run less miles for about the same pay as a highly productive flatbed driver.”

If you enjoy the freight and the work then OD is like any other subset in trucking, some folks swear by tanker, others would never do anything but reefer and still others like working end dump. For me the flexibility losses of OD turned out to be a deal breaker, it was an eye opening realization as I really had my heart set on OD and heavy haul, but getting home and spending time with family is worth more to me than playing with machines.

I hope the specialty freight you guys focus on will make a difference in how you’re treated with the acquisition, but I understand your reluctance to trust anything they say. In trucking drivers are looked down on to the level of silliness, I mean yeah that happens in other lines of work as well between management and the workers but I’m constantly amazed by how little folks often think of the source of their earning potential. There are a few former Kivi drivers at SPD, I wonder what they’ll think after the transition - though I do hope you’re proven wrong and things remain good at SPD.

My truck sucked wind as well with the tall load I had on (LA to IL) and with the wind and winter blend fuel my fuel economy has gone to crap too, and no I’m not going to drive around at 63 mph to get it up sorry… Enjoy that manual while you can and try to find something enjoyable about the experience as it may well be your last in trucking, though I hope not as we’d all miss your insights and rants :).

@supersnackbar Dude, you've been there six months. I get it, you hate Wylie with the white hot passion of a thousand suns, but hear me out, maybe, just maybe wait until things actually turn to poop before you bail. After all, you managed to give that rolling clogged toilet Shaffer a whole year. Just my $0.02
