I married a not rich but very, very attractive Costa Rican woman. She is college educated and great with money. She is very smart so I know we can make and save and invest enough to get wealthy. We will eventually build a few properties here in Costa Rica and Air B&B them out as another income and use one when we are here. We are not 100% sure she is going to go to an MBA program yet. We will see how she does on the GMAT and go from there. English is not her first language so it could be tough. If that doesn't work out she has her businesses and can expand those or just work with her Batchelor degree. She won't make as much but the combo with me driving and her making a decent income would be enough. None of it matters because we just need a decent amount of money and I can trade some and we can invest some in real estate... The more money the faster we can make it the sooner we accomplish our goals. But it's about the ride anyways!

@Truckingdaytrader --
Below is a thread that might be some good reading for you, as a new driver:
If you had to start over...

I won't finance anything except for a reasonable sized and priced property. Cars, toys, vacations... cash only. Always have several months of bill money in the bank incase things aren't working out! Then, if things are not going the way you want... change it! Simple ####.
The ones I got something out of were the positive ones. There were a lot... Some said they would do local over OTR. Others say OTR was the way to go. Like I said...perspective! -
@Truckingdaytrader --
The more you read--& digest--from that thread, the fewer potential surprises you will have later, as a newbie.
The hope here is..."forewarned is forearmed"...& this broad-based, up-front info will later improve your chances for success.
Good luck, Driver...

Got this message today from a company. Anyone know about them? Seems like everyone says the same stuff.

During that time period--you really are LEARNING HOW TO DRIVE--ALL OVER AGAIN.
Thus--from the start you should focus on companies that will help you achieve that goal.
This above company shows no genuine evidence of helping you do that.
The earlier recommendations would be far better options for someone in your position.

I am totally prepared to be "learning" for 2 years. I know I wouldn't see top dollar during that time.
Another question... I see ads all of the time saying $X a year, etc. I get that a lot of it is BS advertising. What is a realistic amount of money to expect for a seasoned vet doing OTR and how many years until you hit that level? -
It can depend largely on:
- what part of the United States you live in;
- what type of freight you pull;
- what carrier you are driving for;
- whether you are local, regional, or OTR;
- how long you stay out, before home time;
- what endorsements you have (a hazmat-rated driver will often get paid more, for example);
- and (duuhhhh
) your experience level with the type of freight in question.
Drivers in Minnesota can easily make 6 figures annually doing that.
In south Georgia--it's much harder to reach close to that level. It's doable--but only for a chosen few.
Earlier, I recommended a tanker job--because the experience you get there will help set you up later for some of the highest-paying gigs in the business.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.....
