What happens if I go over 14 hours?

    I was close to the end of my shift waiting at a dock. Once they finished, I only had 8 minutes left so I switched on PC to park somewhere. The first place was full, but I decided to fuel up. Afterwards, because the truck had been switched off then on, the logs changed the status to Driving without me realizing. Once I got to a safe haven 15 minutes later, I realized what had happened.

    My company is refusing to edit the log and I can't do it on my end. So my question is, what will happen if I get pulled over for a random inspection in the next couple of weeks? A fine, points on my license? Should I refuse to drive until my company agrees to fix the time? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Drive time cannot legally be edited, it's not just that your company is refusing to do it.

    If you want to be legal, you also have a violation for fueling while on PC time.. That is supposed to be on duty...

    Your company cannot edit drive time.. It is un editable by anybody... if you get inspected, (which always seems to happen after stupid stuff like this).. You will either get a logbook violation if the officer is being a dick or they may just look past it... or may ask for an explanation.... I would not worry about it.. 15 mins is not a big deal in my opinion.. The officer will really have to be looking hard at your hours to notice what happened... and I believe the majority of officers would look past that as long as you showed them respect and present yourself nicely and have all your paperwork in order...

    Your company legally CANNOT edit away drive time.

    If you get inspected in the next 8 days, the officer should cite you. They may or may not, but they should.

    PC is not intended to be used to extend your day for the company's benifit. If you dont have time to get loaded, don't go in. Others disagree with me on this, and they're not wrong.

    That said, if you are using PC to get to safe/legal parking you should not have fueled which is an On Duty activity. Continuing on to the parking spot is the most legal option.

    I once left a shipper in Irving tx with 20 minutes left on my 14 ran out of time in rush traffic, so I just drove another 40 minutes to the tx ok line and parked at the casino. Safety wrote me up said next time I getting a three day suspension. Told them I should qualify in a couple of weeks. I got a log violation every six months. Just don't get caught by DOT Lol

    You can use a CMV for personal use but can only fuel it on duty. Does that mean when you use it for PC you better not inspect it first. Only government bureaucrats could come up with this

    I arrived at the shipper with over 3 hours on my clock. They docked me after an hour and a half and then took another hour and a half to load the trailer. If I knew it'd be that long, I wouldn't have gone.

    What did you log while sitting in dock? Can change it to sleeper berth . If it is 2 or 3 hours consecutive time. That would pause ur 14 clock and then ur driving time after would be legal

    In that situation if I wasn't in a dock inside 30 minutes, I would be having a conversation with the clerk about time lines and options (leave the trailer and come back, park on the property, or just leave and come back). If I'm not in a dock with at least 2 hours left on my 14, I leave unless there is no doubt about being out with enough time to get to safe and legal.

    I learned in my first 6 months driving not to put myself in that situation. And when I am dumb enough to stick an appendage in a vice, I pay darn close attention to what I'm doing - double check duty statues, etc.

    We used to be able to get away with playing fast and loose with the rules, and the company would shield us as best they could. Now they want us to take all the risk while they reap the rewards.
