PLEASE HELP - My automatic transmission truck wont go into gear

I have a 2007 Freightliner Century having a similar issue. (Smartshift)


Hand computer code = Code SPN 161 Transmission input Shaft speed. / SPN0161 Occurrence count 5 / FMI=5 - Current Below Normal or Open Circuit


(I believe it's the open circuit because the dash code says "Trans In Shaft SPEED OPEN 130 161 05 N/F*” (*flashing between both)


I recently had a friend install an inverter. Shortly after my check trans light began to flash. Thought maybe I needed new Batteries because I just bought the truck a few months prior, so I bought 4 new.


It worked for a quick sec then Flashing check trans light and codes again, also heard a grinding sound as I was stopping to check, I stopped almost immediately after hearing the sound. Thought it might be out of trans fluid but when checked it wasn't the true.


Currently: won't shift into gear anymore.


I tried disconnecting from the battery. When I was stranded out of state I disconnected while I was sleeping, woke and it got me back home only to stop shifting into gear 3 blocks away from home.


Now parked down the way and can't get it out of gear. Tried the battery trick again for a few days this time. No go. Still flashing F/N and throwing codes above.

 

Did you or can you disable the inverter? Allison's do not like low voltage and if the inverter is placing too much of a drain on the alternator, it is going to cause problems in my experience. There may be a possibility that the installation has an issue too.

 

I need help with a similar issue:

I have a 2007 Freightliner century class Eaton fuller ultra shift.

wasn’t switching gears.
I was getting dash code:

Trans in SHAFT SpPEED OPEN 130 161 05 and flashing F & N

handheld code: SPN 161 and FMI = 5

So far
Replaced the shaft speed sensor and the XY shifter

codes cleared but same issues it won’t go into drive and now flashing 2 with a down arrow ⬇️

can anyone help?

 

I disconnected the inverter a while ago still no go. Called a shop and they say the EF trans are pretty sturdy so I should do more troubleshooting before assuming it’s dead. I am in a bind. Any suggestions after replacing drive shaft sensor and the XY shifter????

no more codes but flashes 2 with down arrow now. Still won’t go into gear
