I know that's what lots of guys doing paper logs say. It's like maybe somebody cuts his grass with a push mower. It's a lousy job that nobody wants to do and they could knock it out in a quarter of the time or less on a riding mower but push mowing is just how they've always done it. Ok, knock yourself out. Or it's like doing 850÷45=? with a pencil and paper. Yeah anybody can do it but who does that when they got a calculator handy? It doesn't matter one way or another but I know if you tried it on software you'd toss those loose leaf in the garbage can and never look back.

Well my go to was/is DDL and unfortunately you can no longer download it. Drivers Daily Log software coming to an end for truckers I still have it on my laptop (for as long as it lasts) and can use it but there's no updates if any HOS regs change. DDL wouldn't allow you to log a violation so without updates I'd just have to know the new regulation and log it right. I'm on ELD now so it's my backup in case the ELD malfunctions or fails. Used it for over 12 years the DOT liked it when they wanted to see. If somebody has a newer version similar to DDL that they can post up you should definitely give it a shot.

I found this one with a search http://www.drivers-daily-log.c. also called "driver's daily log" but it's not the exact same as what I have. Looks very similar and probably does the job just fine. It's just a different offering from somebody else. And it looks like they're charging $50 a year. The old DDL that I used was a one time $100 fee that you could freely update for multiple years on end. You only had to pay again for a new license if the computer you loaded it on died.

Legally yes. While most LEO's are ok with email/fax, not all are, or even have the capacity to receive either one.

May a driver use a computer, tablet, or smartphone (that is not an Automatic On-Board Recording Device) to create, electronically sign, and store the record of duty status (RODS)? | FMCSA
Question 28: May a driver use a computer, tablet, or smartphone (that is not an Automatic On-Board Recording Device) to create, electronically sign, and store the record of duty status (RODS)?

Guidance: Yes. A driver may make manual duty-status entries to a computer, tablet, or smartphone program that is used to generate the graph grid and entries for the record of duty status (RODS) or log book, provided the electronically-generated display (if any) and output includes the minimum information required by §395.8 and is formatted in accordance with that section. The driver must sign the RODS (manually or electronically) at the end of each 24-hour period to certify that all required entries are true and correct. (A) If electronic signatures are not used: The driver must print and manually sign the RODS daily. The driver must have in his or her possession the printed and signed RODS for the prior seven consecutive days (if required on those days). The driver should be given an opportunity to print and manually sign the current day's RODS at the time of the inspection. (B) If RODS have been electronically signed: At the time of an inspection of records by an enforcement official, the driver may display the current and prior seven days RODS to the official on the device’s screen. If the enforcement official requests printed copies of the RODS, the driver must be given an opportunity to print the current and prior seven days RODS (if required on those days) at the time of inspection.

To each his own .. but I'll gladly take a violation for Non legible log .vs letting some LEO or DOT thumbing through my ph .. nor do I wanta set up a portable printer in my truck ..
Theres just things that noboby nor any electronic device need to know
I prefer to donate 5 mins & a ink pen to the cause
JMO but if you need a app to do a log book for ya then you ain't much of a driver

I find it even funnier some people can't understand common english & feel they have the right to criticize others for the way they Communicate ..
You probably won't want to have a conversion with me .. Mr Judgemental English Professor... cause I drop the F bomb like it's my job .. Especially around judgemental ####tards because I enjoy watching them cringe & then they can understand the point I'am making
