    Yep they sure did.

One night I pulled into a TS which had them.

the cops were there, the fire truck was leaving and there was a burned-out w900 at the end of the row across from where I was going to park.

What had happened was the driver of the truck thought it would be a good idea to use the pressurization of the a/c unit to find a door leak. So he set up the window, paid for the night, got the A/C running on high, then took a coffee can jammed a bunch of paper in it, lit it, put the can right on the floor with his atlas sitting on the seat hanging over enough to get caught by the flames.

Well ... he found the leak but the truck went up in flames.

But it gets better, I heard from the T/S manager the next morning that he wanted a refund on the IdleAire charges.

I sat in Ontario T/A for a few days and used it. I only signed in and used the a/c during the afternoons, then logged out for the evenings and mornings when it was cooler and didn’t need the cooling. Saved me a few dollars.
Think I only used it about six times total.

    IdleAire, an experiment.

Tried it ONCE in Texas on I-10, at a Petro in El Paso (where there was a "cadillac service to mexico" which I avoided).
Took like 3 hours to cool down the Sleeper Cab  and there was a peculiar "smell" from the system which was NOT from me being a cigarette smoker.
Never again used that setup or any similar setup at ANY location.

Never heard anything good about them. Always broken. Would stink up your truck if you weren’t a smoker. I suppose it was a good concept that was poorly executed.

Or maybe it was a bad idea altogether because nobody ever duplicated or improved it.

I used it a time or two......Like others have said the idea of it was awesome. The execution, not so much. I remember the smelly air coming out of it.

One time, I left Charlotte....drove all the way to that rest area on I-10 in Louisiana(Atchafalaya Swamp). My AC was broke so I cracked my windows a bit, about an hour later my cab was filled with mosquitos. I had a knot on my arm from a mosquito bite the size of a gumboil. So I got up and drove to Orange, TX and hooked up the IdleAire........ slept like a baby

They really screwed up a whole bunch of parking lots when they reconfigured them to put those things in. I wish I knew just how many parking spaces we lost nationwide.
