So don’t haul dry van? No one is making you go out of business but yourself. Reefer and flatbed rates are still profitable. If it’s not working why continue with the same strategy. It’s like if Netflix never went to online streaming and still mailed the dvd.

Not just tax refunds. I know quite a few people who did not have money beforehand, but got those Covid EIDL money and bought trucks. A couple managed to pay off significant part of the load and now struggle just like everyone else, but couple others decided to expand, buy more trucks and hire drivers. They are now completely underwater with truck values and drivers are starting to jump ship, because there is not enough work. All doing dry van btw

3 dol a mile is not even closely equivalent to the minimum wage. Maybe $1.00 per mile would be but we ain't even there yet....

The minimum of 3 dol a mile could be compared to raising the minimum wage to 30 dol an hour, and all of a sudden everybody unemployed wants to get hired, and the existing employees are getting raise, they're all happy for some time but then many businesses will go inevitably bankrupt, creating even bigger unemployment than before.

    Trivia:
Did you know that introducing the minimum wage as a part of the New Deal by F.D. Roosevelt created a disruption in lumberjack businesses in Oregon back then in 1930s?

Pay a driver .70 a mile, fuel .70 a mile and you're already bankrupt with that $1 per mile.
    Countless other expenses too.

If it was law then everything else including Taxes would go up to take all the issues you are saying out of the equation. So then we would be back to the same stuff like we see now.. ha Ha

The way I see it is that prebooking is the only way to find something doable today.
If I waited till Monday, I'd most likely find nothing better.

I should had went that way and got some of the free money. I was to new to take the money I think if I remember right. But I could have gotten some of the loans for next to nothing. Could had been a big boost to buy a fleet.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.
