I do not mean to advocate speeding or breaking the law. Actually, I rarely do more than 3 mph over the limit except in California.

I’ve been driving less than a year and driving a little faster has helped me out more than once against my clock/distance already.

IMO, anyone speeding into or out of any small town where lower limits are posted is asking for it. Just like the actual limits themselves tend to be planned for the most common passenger cars and light trucks, so generally is the spacing of consecutive signs lowering the limit incrementally. It is a good idea to see it coming and just plan accordingly. While I’ve been liking Trucker Path more and more, my Rand McNally does a really good job of warning me about upcoming speed limits changes.

And, even when I might speed a little, I am still considering the safety of the road conditions and traffic situation.

Certainly, there is little to no excuse for any speed above or below posted limits if any extra risk factors can be observed/foreseen and the path then cannot be navigated safely!

That is the fly in the ointment. Can't depend on the steady production of the feeler. Rangers on the Natchez Trace Parkway have a technique.
They patrol silently, flip it on as they approach a reasonable length straightway with some oncoming traffic. Trace is mostly continuous dipping hills...
Pkwy Nashville to Natchez, handy from Tupelo to Jackson. I used to attend a sales meeting in Jax the 1st Monday in the month. Pkwy limit is 50.
So you get on, run up to 55 and wait. Along comes a braver soul and tries to pass you. Nudge it up to 60 as he does, the drop back enough he is
slowly leaving you. Keep him in sight a hilltop away. Probably running a steady 70 now.
But now, you have this stalking horse out there running ferret missions for you. He comes into Ranger view, Ranger whacks it at him, your unit picks up the warning.. So he is up there and you drop down. Hopefully, he will flash blues at your leader and directly you see the Ranger. Time passes, repeat to Jackson.

May sound silly, but I ran this way for almost 5 years and never nailed.
Before anyone gets it up about speed on parkways... In the 50- 60's, the trees were as close as 8-10 feet from edge of the asphalt. Only the old 4" wide center white line. No bent arrow signs with XX MPH for curves. We would want to party in Jax, get some beer, and and hit the Trace. A good 57 Chevy could knock the 175 mile out in 2 hr 45 min. Everyone going south at 75+. Everybody was a budding whiskey hauler or dirt track racer back then. Fewer wrecks than now.
Road is much improved as to width, signage, and trees cleared back quite a ways.
    Funny...
Was coming back one night. Had a bag phone on the seat and a pager we had been issued that day during the meeting on my belt.Blazing right along in an ISUZU pickup at the 70 range. All good, little Zu humming, terrain flashing by, dark, dry, clear, good speeding weather.
The pager went off. The ring, the vibration on my belt, and no reason for any of this sorta suddenly confused me. Had to be a rattlesnake one of the Jackson crowd had blessed me with. Did not know whether to crap, vomit, climax, or wind my watch. Immediately settled on stop and get out. Did that and the rattle came with me and it all came clear. Crime and punishment can coincide.

You can run 61 most of the time, stay under 65 but no guarentee's. North of Fresno there more serious, espeically around Sacramento, no humor

Sacramento is also where the CHP Academy is located. If I had to drive in the Sacramento area every day I'd lose my sense of humor too.

Nah, just stay in the right lane, under 60, and dont pass anybody doing at least 55. They do enforce both north of CA 198 (Visalia), So I behave from Bakersfield up, actually starting at Tehachapi, there real touchy on the downhills also.

Must be a grudge match. I came off Tehachapi in June 57, (Old road then), got safely down, turned up 99, breathed a sigh of relief and let the old Mack out.
B a m, black car, white doors, big decal, clip on red lenses over the spot light and flashed my mirrors badly. BUT, nice LEO, discussed my first time out, his wonderful road, his speed limit and MS the same, I just got carried away, etc. etc... Mutual admiration society there roadside and he Catholized me (go and sin no more/faster), Lucked out till fall 58 when let the man in Redding sneak up on me. Recited basically the same ploy, was told to get speedo calibrated, and turned loose again. So, not too bad.

On Any Multi-Lane Road, Highway, Interstate, How is the "money lane" Lane #3??
Lane Numbers begin from CENTER OF ROAD, so number 3 lane is THIRD from center (how is it a "money Lane"??), and #4 Lane is next to 5th LANE, and so forth.
It's simply LOGICAL, like a 24 hour clock.:)

I agree 100%, just a figured of speech when the “third lane” in question is taken into concept. When your on the interstate with 4 lanes each way with a median in the center, in Commiefornia your only allowed on the right 2 lanes(3 and 4), so since when one says(at least I do) the “third” lane(money lane, no no lane)it’s (I’m) referring to the #2 lane from the center. o_O:confused: :D:cool:.

Bad when the centerlane on 99 was for passing for both directions, careful were going to start feeling old, Why when I was a kid we lived on Glenoaks & Hollywood way and there was no Interstate 5, or 210 either for that matter. I think the 210 was put in for filming CHiP's...... We used it for a dragstrip back in the 70's..
