As wet as it has been I wasn't sure you could get it to burn today. Maybe a little instant boyscout was used as an aid?

It was 2003, I had recently graduated high school, and I was working as a welder/machinist apprentice in a local fabrication shop. As gifts for fathers day that year I made 3 identical ballpien hammers, one for each of my Grandpa's and one for my dad. Now 20 years later this one has been returned to me...

While cleaning out my my Grandpa's shop, in preparation for the estate sale, it was found in a small chest toolbox. The head is made of 1045 coldroll mild steel, the handle from 1018 coldroll mild steel. The head and handle are pressed together and secured with an 1/8" roll pin. It probably weights about 1.5 pounds, and feels nearly prefectly balanced in the hand.

This one shows evidence of much use... And that makes me smile. My dad still has his, although it rarely gets used. I know my other grandpa used his, but I'm unsure what ever happened to it when he was moved into a care facility and eventually passed away.

These hammers were the first projects I ever designed and machined by myself. That alone gives it alot of value to me personally, then add in that it was a gift to my Grandpa, and that he used it quite alot... That makes it priceless to me.

I just wish it could tell me the stories of the projects and repairs it helped my grandpa do over the years. Now it will reside in my own tool box beside a much larger hammer I built as part of my college training as a machinist. And I will continue to add evidence of use to it.

That was a great concert to go to in 1983 it was at the Bronco Bowl, took Amy Jonston to it and it was an even better time after the concert.
