I'm also going to tag @brian991219 because I might have missed something.

A carrier is required by Federal Rules to assemble and maintain a Driver Qualification File. In this file, a carrier is required to place all the returns they get from your previous employer and/or Hireright/DAC. I have heard about safety people peeing on themselves when an FMCSA auditor makes ID and asks to start looking at these files. The FMCSA generally will fine a carrier if they find missing or incomplete records in this file. Most of the time when an inquiry is sent to an old carrier they send back ONLY The dates worked, the reason for leaving, and finally rehire status. It just depends on how close the person doing your paperwork looks at these reports. It's possible you might slip by, but it is more likely during orientation the carrier will ask you about the disputed dates.

The regulation that covers this can be found in § 391.23 Investigation and inquiries. Look VERY carefully at the first few paragraphs.

Even if you could get by with it, as others said it definitely reflects bad on your character as well.....

If someone lied to me about that, I'd think, "Dang, this guy really wants to work and not a leech off the welfare system." I'd probably find a way to give him work if possible.

I am not suggesting you lie on your application as I feel it is simply a bad idea but according to INC magazine they surveyed large employment verification service companies like Hire-Right and found 85% of job applications have some false information on it.
