A little clarification, Clarkson had owned the farm for a while before the show, however, he had a manager for the farm, who ran the farm as a standalone business.

This manager moved on and Clarkson thought, "how hard can this be, I'll do it?"

He got a BIG awakening, farming is hard work, and rarely turns a profit, the show has really bought home to a lot of viewers how hard, and precarious, farming can be.

Not too mention the petty rules and regulations that can scupper any entrepreneurial business ideas at a moments notice.

    Sorry for the thread drift.

I have awesome hindsight, like a Nikon, lol. Worked for SNBC hauling chemical tankers 9 years. Should have gotten my own truck even through leasing. Moved to KAG with salary and good pay. That ended after a year. Now I’m in a hotel making half my pay ( breakdown rate) for the third time in three months. Total of 23 days and counting of my 579 sitting in a dealership. If I include our shops and road service calls it’s more like 30 + I’m just about done too. When I was salary I wouldn’t have to worry. IMO all drivers should be on salary or by the hour. But now I missed my 20th effing dentist appointment. Yeah that sucks.

I feel you. It took me a year to get new glasses. Everywhere was booked a couple weeks in advance and I could never make it home to make an apt. Had to be on the call list in case someone canceled last minute every time I was home.

I have so much respect for anyone driving these things for 20 or 30 years. So much....and even way more if you did it all on your own. And yet even more if you did it all on your own including finding your own direct customers. I can't even imagine it. You would have to be everything everywhere all at once and continously.

    Update:
Well, have not had much interest yet. I have reduced the asking price significantly. Now asking $200,000 cdn obo.
TTR mods please pm me if this has to be only in the classified section or if I'm breaking any rules here.

    edit post to add:
If anyone can direct me in another way as to how best to more effectively sell my equipment, as far as where to advertise it, please let me know. I am hesitant to list it in the marketbook.ca website since they want $350 for 5 weeks...for each piece of equipment. If anyone's tried that - is it worth the cost?

Yep, I certainly did. I am using it currently doing my daily summer run for my direct customer [who has now given me a career in farming].
I may separate them once farm season is done, I don't know yet.

Missing the peak doesn't bother me one bit. During that peak, sure, I could of sold it all for much more in a snap. However - I did collect fat revenue during the same time period which would have been the trade off. I am looking forward to peace of mind, a new career, not having to deal with the endless regulation and basicly all of trucking in general. This lifestyle is not possible to ever build a life/have a family. Trucking can absolutely NOT be my main source of income any longer. It may be an on the side deal, but I don't want ownership, I want to be able to drop it at a moments notice. Which has me feeling basicly trapped at the moment. Not a good feeling continuing to do this hating it since it is too big an asset to not use, while waiting for the market for used to recover.
