Struck by lightning this morning en route to a pickup.

Man that makes me short of breath and sweaty just reading about it. Thank God you weren't hit by traffic. Good job.

 

My Volvos came with pre-installed electrical gremlins, but I still liked them. Oh, and I only date women. LOL

 

Last one I saw was an older Cascadia that had the CB antennas mounted on the side of the cab and they were gone but remnants of them were burned into the cab....wish I still had the picture, looked like images I've seen of Hiroshima.

About 25 years ago my uncle was delivering feed to a farm with a feed truck . Over the winter snow built up and he struck a power line . Lucky for him he jumped off the running board instead of stepping off.. every gauge on the dash was sparking he said .. truck was totalled from the high voltage . I imagine you have many issues you won’t be aware of till later..

 

Had a Pete towed into our shop once. Plugged it in to the computer, EVERY sensor had a code. Found out later it was struck by lightning. We got it going, but the cost was really about what the truck was worth.

 

Post of the thread! 1st, that's intense. I read, there's a 1 in 15,300 chance you will ever be struck by lightning in your life. Odds increase in a vehicle because you are insulated by the tires, so it was a direct hit. Coming from the midwest, I've been in a LOT of thunderstorms. I've never been in a tornado, or even seen one, and never struck by lightning, so both events are rare. I read, about 230 people are struck every year, many going unreported, and less than 10% die, but I bet that sure woke you up. It's incredible how loud it is. I also read a while back, on a test drive for an unmanned semi on a back road in FL. All was going well, until lightning struck the "command center", and the truck coasted to a stop.

 

It seems that a lot of these gremlins are a result of how they run wires and where they put connectors.

Where I work now we run 90% Volvos. For the 2023 models, we've had several wind up in the shop with the same issue. Lights on dash suddenly come on, usually after a hard bump. It will disconnect the cruise and it will not work again for a while. Then going down the road all lights clear, cruise comes back on and life is good. Rinse and repeat.

Our shop found that Volvo put a connection between the engine and transmission and apparently its in a bind the way they did it. On EVERY single truck that had this issue, our mechanics fixed that connection and in every single instance the problem went away and never came back.

Of all the trucks I've driven, Peterbilt, Cascadias old and new, Internationals, this is BY FAR the nicest truck I've ever been in and not just because it was almost new, because all the others were brand new, or almost new, as well. It's because of the incredibly smart layout inside the truck where the bottom bunk can be made into a table with two bench seats as well as lights being in good places, USB connectors handy all around the truck. It's just very driver friendly and well laid out. For only having 425hp it doesn't pull that bad, either. In "power" drive mode it does as well as the trucks I've driven in the past. It just gets far better fuel mileage as it puts itself back into economy mode when you're just cruising down the interstate. Getting 10+mpg with a trailer with under 20K in the box is not unheard of, even at 72mph.

 

Got hit by lightning while parked at a truck stop. Lit the whole truck up. My hair was long back then, think it touched the ceiling of the cab over I was in. Totally fried the truck, breakdown told me not to turn it off till I got to terminal. They scrapped the truck once I made it back. Scared the crap out of me, what a way to wake up.
