    @brian991219

    I was interested if anyone knows the rules regarding Farm tags and usage.

    My brother has a Farm in Pennsylvania. It is an actual agricultural Farm it was a dairy farm.

    I would like to tag my tractor trailer for Farm use- the tractor that is, if there's a way I can do that for him I don't use the truck anymore it would only be used for the farm at this point until or unless I sell it. I'm not in the trucking business any longer I'm not hauling anything for anyone except for him and the farm.

    However, while it's tagged I'd like to know what all I can do and I cannot do.

    Can I get set up that my truck has Farm plates for his farm? What exactly am I allowed to haul or not haul? How far am I allowed to go and what am I not allowed to do?

    Unless it’s changed..., it’s agricultural use only and within a 50mile radius of the domiciled farm

    Yeah a few around here were running interstate claiming it was farm products but they were reported on and the state came down really hard when they were caught in the act loading a trailer up with auto parts,

    You cannot lend a farm plate (Atleast in Ma) you will need to sign the title over to him so he can title it and get a compliance decal for the plate.

    10 air miles of the farm all you need is the decal, no plate, all north east states are reciprocity and I’m pretty sure Kentucky is the first state out that won’t accept a MA F tag

    for farm use only as course, however, the farm can lend another person a truck with a farm plate on it is where the grey area comes in,

    You have 2 options
    You sell your brother the truck
    Or your brother sells you the farm

    Titling Registration and Exemption

    PA makes it so difficult and cumbersome to jump through the hoops, and adds so many rules that it's practically worthless. I'm sure there's a farm plate somewhere in the state, but I've personally never witnessed one. Usually what I see is someone putting a triangle on the tailgate or writing "farm plate" on a piece of metal and attaching it somewhere.

    PA issues farm plates to any type of vehicle as long as they meet the criteria which you can find on the DMV website. I worked for many farmers when I was younger and their plates on their personal pickup trucks and tri axles all had plates that started with FM-xxxx and it says "farm truck" at the bottom of the plate. They're exempt from state inspection unless you drive it over the 150 mile radius from the registered farm. Above that they're subject to all rules as a regularly registered vehicle

    In TN you don’t even have to have a cdl if you run farm plates.
