Hey everyone, I got back from orientation at a SWIFT Terminal, and there's been a delay for driver trainers. I keep hoping my #### phone will ring from my driver trainer saying "I'll meet you at such and such a location" and we can get the #### ball rolling. It's so frustrating. I need $$$. How long does this take? Couple days? Months? Years? Jesus Christ. I have other companies interested in me and if they can get me rolling quicker, I just might take them up on it. SWIFT starts people off at .25 mile after training, I'm gonna team up with a friend, and hopefully make more $$$. How long should I wait? I have USA Truck, Werner and CRST as my other options. Thanks for any help. -CZ

Exactly how long have you been waiting? It will depend on what your preference is. Male driver, female driver smoker, none smoker.. Just because your still waiting doesn't mean any of the other companies will get you a trainer any faster.. Some times it may take up to two weeks for a trainer. It will depend on how many are still with trainees..

Most of the time you get a trainer within a couple of days.

Swift has been asking drivers to become a mentor.

Just be patient, it shouldn't be to long. When did you finish orientation?

when the biggies start on the waiting trainer thing, it means biz is picking up, and they can't fill positions fast enough, good companies will retain people, treat them right, bear out the bad times with them, so when biz does pick up, there poised and ready for it, not tring to play catch up, things are picking up, i've seen the help wanted ads in my area go from 6 to 18 in the last few weeks, all i'll say is that most who have to advertise on a continual basis, usually are not working for.

I have been getting emails and stuff in the mail from companies I applied to several months ago, but I am going to wait for a mentor with Swift. They have been patient with me so I will be patient with them.

I had my trainer assigned in 2 days after orientation and got on truck the following sunday. Total wait 6 days. Glad I waited 'cause Dale (mentor) and I are still friends....:biggrin_25517:

    Hey CZ,

From what I've heard most of the other folks that were in our orientation are sitting & waiting for the phone call also. It sucks waiting but hang in there, it'll be worth it for you just to gain that experience.

Although I only need to go out for a week, I'm snapping with the house move & stuff rapidly approaching. I figure they'll call me the week we're scheduled to move:)

I never did get your number so stay in touch. I'll let you know as soon as I hear someone has hit the road.

    Your neighbor to the north!

Guess CZ must have gotten the call & has hit the road.
I received my call this afternoon & will hit the road tommorrow. A couple of other folks from that orientation have received their calls & will be hitting the road shortly.

    Be safe!

Wow the trucking industry seems to get worse every year and pay keeps going down.I'm not here to newb bash for we all have to start somewhere just wanted to make a point. I started driving in 1999 for a small company in IL.(less than 200 trucks) after taining I started out at.27 cpm this is in 1999! That said hang in there keep your driving record clean and get your experience. After you get 2yrs in then you'll be able to look into small company's that treat you well like all drivers should at any company! By small I'm talking 100-200 trucks.
