Jakes are need because dick heads in cars cut you off, and the jake helps you stop running over the top of them, so be happy that we can stop quicker because of the jake

  3. I use them as much as possible, When needed. Heaven forbid someone losses a little sleep! Its much better to get someone killed instead. When going down the highway and I see no jake areas at night . I turn mine on! Just my way to assert my right to protest. Sorry Northern CA!

The few times Ive had to spend the night at a truckstop, I dont recall hearing them..... Maybe its cause I'm not a frickkin light sleeper who wakes up at the loudness of a mouse fart. Lets face it, you give someone something to whine about, they will whine about it.

    Heh yep.
Myself I use jakes allot. Always have, it just feels more comfortable. When I had my detroit engine I even used them for upshifting. By asking drivers to stop using there jakes in certain area's, you asking him to deviate from his normal driving habbits. Habbits that have formed over years of exsperience, With reactions that come normal to him. Its like asking a chef to stop using the stove, and instead use an oven. Sure he can probly cook a meal. but probly not as good as what he could have done on the stove.

On a related note, New York is banning the use of salt in food preparation. Yes, the people in charge are that stupid.

im talking about these morons with 8" straight pipes flying through the truckstop at 1900 RPM and then they slam the jake on.

Yeah but not everyone can sleep through a tornado, I myself am a light sleeper. An the noise of some hot rod trucker cruising through the truck stop at night an screaming his jake for god knows why is just plain rude and there is no reason for it. Just disrespect to others.

Nope. EMP comes from a high attitude blast and covers the whole country. Make yourself a Faraday Cage and then drive right through ground zero if you like.

Sorry but that's ludicrous. What did you do when the new ABS came in? Did you stick to your old ways. Or how about with the formula or low rpm high torque engines? You're required to know your vehicle and change when change is needed.

To me using the engine brake all the time is a waste of time. I've heard all the stories about saving brakes and stopping better but with our style of driving we just don't see it. Texaco tried for a year with their super tankers to have the engine brake on all the time. After that year they went back to instructing their drivers to only use the engine brakes while going down grades. If you need to use an engine brake to miss cars or other vehicles then you're driving too fast and should slow down. It's better on the equipment and on you. And to idiots that use them while they're in a truck stop, find another line of work because you miss the whole concept of being a professional.

AfterShock and Big Duker Thank this.
