Oil companies don't set prices...the commodity traders do and when there is a war over there, all the oil tankers coming out of that area are at risk, and since we don't produce as much oil domestically now, a lot of our oil comes out of there. Blaming oil companies for price hikes is like blaming farmers for the price of stuff at the grocery store when a lot of what you buy comes by truck and transportation costs are the biggest expense for product prices.

I’m going to throw at a few numbers concerning my recent breakdown to let people starting out as O/O or contemplating becoming one what the reality is.

-Repair bill $7862.98 (I have no warranty left, so this was all on me)
    -Hotel for 6 nights $752.90
-Lost revenue while down for six days $6,750.00.

    Total cost of breakdown $15,372.90

I can’t stress enough, build up your maintenance fund as fast as possible, I carry a business credit card with a limit of $25K that is strictly for these situations. Once I charge on it, I pay it down as quickly as possible.

If your not prepared and more interested in blowing your larger settlements on stupid material things, one breakdown will put you out of business in todays market.

If you want to blame someone blame the current administration, under the last administration we were energy independent, now we rely on countries that hate us for our oil supply.

They would NEVER cut production to squeeze the market, no way, no how. We're still sending literal boat loads of oil overseas, don't let them kid you.

That place was the beginning of the end to my tenure at FCC. Unloaded in Plainview or something, supposed to pick up preloaded trailer going to AMAZON in San Antonio with a 1300 appt the following day. Get to Hereford, trailer is loaded but they told me to put it in a door as they had to double-check something. 4 hours later I get BOL and they tell me the computer showed they were short 7 bags and had to manually recount it all. Needless to say, out of hours and advised HQ that a new appt would be needed and they got it reset to 1800 which would work fine. Get to Amazon and check-in and they can see my load, appt time but I needed to get a new something or other number and they can't take it. Head to Pilot and send detailed message about what happened and how they could see my inbound load but had the wrong ?number? So next day get a message that new appt time was 2100 following day and I again reminded them I needed that ?number? 1700 rolls around and no new ?number? Roll over to Amazon at 2100 and same situation, got to have new ?number? I send a message that says when you lay with dogs you get fleas and in exactly 10 hours I would be dropping this in Dallas and heading home because it would be Friday and two days on this load was enough for me. I awakened to instructions to drop load in Dallas and grab a preload off the yard and head home. Now, they compensated me nicely for my troubles but after a few other issues I was over the door-swinging life.

I’m fortunate to still have a little warranty left, plus my truck is a 2020. Still, when I paid it off two months ago, I already had 20k in a maintenance fund, 16k in my operating account, plus around 25k in readily available credit. I wasn’t taking any chances. It does allow for better sleep.

Be glad you weren’t hauling reefer freight. Take that BS and multiply it by 100. When you have over a month in a year of purely layover, and who knows how much detention, dry van freight is like winning the lottery

I have been a Niners fan since 1971 even though I grew up in Redskin territory.
