I have a 13 in my Volvo, unless I am hauling over 42k I rarely split the top gears. And the way my company has this truck set up, 11th and 12th have the same maximum top speed, so it makes using 12th useless. Essentially a 13 is a 9 speed when you don't split the top end. In 13th, my rpms are the same as previous trucks with a 10 speed at 68-70. I am getting in the low 7's pulling open deck. At Magnum with their 10 speeds in an aerodynamic Pete and a reefer trailer I was getting in the 8's. All a 13 gives you is more options to keep your engine in the most efficient power range pulling hills with heavier loads.

Yep light loads drive it like 8 speed.
BigR Thanks this. -
I guess it doesn't matter then eh if it doesn't lower rpms and bring the fuel economy. My truck at 62 runs at 1400 rpms 70 1500 and 75 1600rpms.

Wound up getting out of Huntington Beach about 11, which was just shy of 4 hours there. It was an hour earlier than I had planned for, which was good because the traffic was godawful. Ran straight through to Santa Nella to fuel only to find out my fuel card doesn’t work anymore. After night dispatch couldn’t get it going I went ahead and closed out my split so I could get rolling at 01:00 and miss Sacramento morning traffic. When I shut down for my 2 hour break I called in about the fuel card. So apparently it was locked due to suspected fraud. I changed my password for the Flying J app and my email but apparently that wasn’t good enough. So I’m going to have to call in for an EFS check now every time I fuel until I can get back to Fremont and get a different card .
Knock on wood, I seem to be on track to get to my delivery a little early. This was definitely an uncomfortably tight schedule but I seem to have survived so far.
Unfortunately I don’t have a pre plan, there were computer issues with the folks they wanted to get a load with so they were not able to get any load tenders. So I’m supposed to find a place to sit tight after I empty out to wait for something to come along.wulfman75, M22 rockcrusher, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -

Gonna be leaving town early this afternoon to get down to Garland for my 7 am appointment tomorrow. It’s going to be a fairly short week for me as I opted to go home on Saturday to get a reset in and start fresh Monday morning.
I decided to go to the safety banquet next Friday, and also had dispatch put my time off in for Thanksgiving as well. I’m on the fence about taking Christmas off. It falls on a Monday though this year so if I did, I’d only have to take one extra day off. -
The truck is back in the shop at a MFing dealership. Two check engine lights came on just as I crossed out of Illinois into Iowa. Thought about pushing on, but I knew a dealership was just up the road in Davenport. Figured I better play it safe and not throw a tow bill into the mix.
The code it was throwing was for poor nox conversion, they pulled it in this afternoon to diagnose, gave me an estimate a will pull it in the morning and tear into the after treatment BS. I could see the estimate going out the window pretty quick.dwells40, motocross25, MidWest_MacDaddy and 4 others Thank this.
