Well I'm here now and I have to wait and see how it goes, so far so good in my book but it's only been a week, all my first weeks starts good with a new company then it goes down hill, like I said Ill wait before passing harsh judgment.

I guess not to many of the new guys know about this forum , if they did , they would be on here telling the TRUTH like a few of of us have been . jlkklj777 i saw you get out of your truck in camp hill not to long ago and you looked like your horse had thrown you off miles from town and wouldnt let you ride him no more .jlkklj777, after not looking at this forum for some time now , I cant believe you are STILL .... STILL singing the almighty praises of Eastern . I have talked to so many new drivers and all the things you continue to spew are just like some of us have been saying This company just flat out SUCKS and you know it.

I try to be fair and balanced in my comments about Eastern. I am sorry you had (or are having) a tough time here. It has been difficult on me at times as well but I carry on. Pay cuts, increases in medical premiums, lost regular routes all tick me off. I try to focus on the things I have control over and not worry about the rest.

I see Eastern drivers here and there but am usually pretty busy and do not spend time conversing with them. On the occassions I have talked with new drivers I do tell them about the forum and invite them to participate.

As for seeing me in Camp Hill it would not surprise me a bit. I am there 2 to 3 times per week picking up Georgia loads. I still drive the same truck (shown in my profile) even though it has over 630,000 miles on it. Running as a team does take its toll on me especially if we have been on rough roads. Do not take it personally if I did not greet you in person or chat you up at the terminal. I am not a very sociable person.

Even with the 5% pay cut I continue to make money here ($120,000 last year [$61,500 for me and $58,500 for my wife]).

The equipment is simply a tool to get the job done. If my equipment fails I will do what I can to fix it myself or contact road service for assistance. I have found it is faster for me to repair the truck and continue on than wait for a road service truck to show up.

Things I have repaired for Eastern? Airing up flat tires, changing bulbs, mud flaps, keeping my fluids topped off, replacing air line grommets, re-hanging trailer air lines, fixing air ride control arms, and changing batteries. All pretty minor stuff but you would be surprised at how many drivers out there will not even try to help themselves now a days.

With a positive outlook on life and a "can do" attitude you too can be succesful (however you choose to define it).

WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU REPAIR YOUR TRUCK WHEN YOU KNOW YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET A DIME FOR DOING IT ????? DO YOU REALLY THINK YOUR DOING SOMETHING GOOD ????? ALL YOU ARE DOING IS HELPING TO PUT MORE MONEY IN SOMEONE ELSES POCKET.Everytiime you fix your truck , the #)#((*^^^ in South Brunswick sit back in thier chairs and laugh at you . When that truck breaks down , other then a light bulb or a glade hand seal or maybe a fast wire splice , I am calling road service .I got 7 job offeres monday, before 12 noon . I am stayng here untill june and then I am gone . I had no choice but to hang on in this place but now I can go when ever I am ready .
I remember you posting a while back that you and you wife have cut back on a lot of thing s , the truth is , THERE WAS NO REASON YOU HAD TO DO THAT THIS COMPANY IS NOT BROKE NOT EVEN CLOSE , THE OLD MAN IS A GREEDY PIG AND HE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU , YOUR WIFE OR ANYONE ELSE THAT WORKS HERE .Just because things are bad here in this country , does not give companies the right to treat people like slaves .You do not have much in the line of life experience and I suggest you open your eyes young man or you are going to end up living in a cardboard box Oh , you already live in one , that pile of junk you drive .Heres a dime , go and buy a clue .My problem is this , I WILL NOT GET ON MY KNEES FOR ANYONE , NEVER HAVE AND I NEVER WILL ,JOB BE DAMED If a employer does the right thing by me , I give 1000% screw me over , lie to me ,treat me like dirt you get nothing .Disrespect me , you will be lucky if you take another breath in life . One person in South Brunswick is sitting on the very thin line of disrespect .I have something to ask you , what are you going to do when the old man takes another 15% and ohhhh yes , he is gunning hard for it and he will get it , what are you going to do then , sell your house ??? just so you can work for Eastern ????? oh as for meeting you , dont waste my time , If I decide to say anything to you , I am going to give you a real fast lesson on life and you will more then likley start crying

I agree with jj that making MINOR repairs that don't cost you money improve your morale and keeps the money flowing. Trucking commands that you become self-reliant in order to make it out there on the road. In fact, it is one of the few careers that still demands this. Feeling/being self sufficient captures the spirit of the American Pioneers and the natives who inhabited this land. These people understood that in order to be trully free you needed to care for yourself as much as possible, accept responsibility when something goes wrong, and work to make things right when they were not. However, we must not care for another man's business more than we care about even about our own health and well being. We must remember that despite how much we love this profession, the wheels must make money for the person making them spin. JJ, there is a whole world out there besides Eastern. I invite you to explore it and to see for yourself how much better it can be.

I guess to some, waiting for RS to come and air up a tire is worth it, just so he can not say he was "walked upon" or "disrespected".

When I do these same things, I don't do it for a pat on the back or any kind of accolade. I do it so I can keep rolling and DOT has less to get distracted with.

And why, with "7 offers before noon", would you elect to stay until June?

    Just curious.

I used to be a lease operator. It was my mission to make money. I learned that there were many things that I could do to save myself money. I use that same philosophy now that I am an "employee." I do not ask for accolades. The way I see it; I am protecting my livelihood. Repairing minor things while on the road allow me to continue rolling and making money. It also keeps me from being cited at DOT checkpoints for problems with "my" truck. I know it is technically Eastern's (NEMF's truck) truck but as long as it is assigned to me I will treat it as if it were my own.

Calling road service is fine if you cannot fix the problem yourself. Personally, I would rather be driving down the road making money than sit on the side of the road making $11.00 per hour for the delay. I would rather limp into a terminal or truck stop and move the process along if possible. At least I do not have to worry about being hit while sitting on the side of the road. I do wish you sucess and happiness in your new job (when you do decide to switch that is).

I do not believe we are treated as slaves. Yes we have had to sacrifice many things. We were spending too much money plain and simple. Having our pay reduced has been a wake up call to me. I have learned I cannot "count" on anyone to provide me a decent living. I will have to WORK to EARN money to provide a decent living for myself. Even the union rank and file have had to make concessions to keep their jobs.

I am not sure what type of experience you think I need to be "enlightened." I am 40 years old. I have had a total of 4 truck driving jobs since I became a truck driver in 1992. Before that I worked at McDonalds and worked my way into management. Before that I worked as a radio announcer on an AM radio station. Before that I washed dishes and mowed lawns to make money. I actually like what I do today. It is by far the easiest job I have ever had. The truck does the work. I simply guide it. The people I work for have treated me very well over the years so they have earned my loyalty AND respect.

I do not think I get "on my knees" at all. I offered Eastern my services and they accepted. They did not have to hire me. They have the right to fire me at any time they so choose AND I have the right to quit for any reason or no reason at all as well. I believe if I do my job well enough I will be rewarded through a steady pay check and benefits. I am not "looking" for another job. I like the one I have and will stay as long as they continue to treat me respect.

As for crying, I am not ashamed to say I am capable of shedding tears. I cried when my father died. I cried when my eldest daughter died at the age of 10. I cried when I witnessed the birth of each of my daughters. I cried when my house burned down and I lost all my possessions. I even cried when my little dog became paryled in her rear legs. Does this make me weak in your eyes? If so then I truly feel sorry for you.

You and I will have to agree to disagree. I will not convince you that my way or mindset is better than yours and it is doubtful that you will have any chance of changing my mind. You are welcome to your opinions. Please have enough respect for me to allow me to have mine.

I live by a simple creedo; Do the best I can in all things. I do not look for approval nor compensation for doing the "right" thing. The funny thing is I am not even a Christian (I am an agnostic). I do live by many of the same concepts though.

Why does Eastern Freightways have as many negative messages as Prime while being only a fraction of it's size. Can so many people really be wrong about it? I don't think so, but if anyone else finds this joint worth it please take the time to let us know.
