TeeH,I drive for Roehl on the 7 on 7 off program. As far as I know they still offer it.I live about 85 miles from the Akron,OH drop lot which is where I operate out of.I think 100 miles is the requirement for this program.Give them a call and see what they have to say.I usually run about 3000 to 3300 mile in my 7 days out.I have had a couple of weeks between 2000 and 2500 miles, but most of the time your gonna get around 3000 mi.They also have a 7 on 3 off 7 on 4 off program.I leave out on Sat. morn.and I get back in sometime on Fri.

I just got home from completing Evolution One training, and I don't recall hearing anything about a washing policy. I know we were going to wash the tractor in Gary, but ran out of time. I looked in the driver guide book and couldn't find anything on the subject. I think it's like most other places in that they'll reimburse you for the cost if it's done outside of a Roehl terminal. I'll know soon enough, I guess.

Homeboy, I don't know why you seem to be having problems but my husband is with Roehl, has been since April 2005. He missed the first safety bonus because he came in during the middle of the quarter and didn't log the required miles to be eligible but he has received the last two safety bonuses as well as the sign on bonus he was told he would get. Plus he has been getting good miles even though at this time of the year freight is slow. All in all I would say you are the first person that seems to be dissatisfied with them. But as they say you can't please all the people all of the time. Good luck to you.

I am not the only one dissatisfied. I assume all of the people that have left the company in the past months that I have been there have been dissatisfied also. And I also hear from a lot of drivers when I happen to run through the terminals (which is very, very rare). Many are dissatisfied with the company, escpecially of late. It seems to be the consesus that the company has gotten worse since the son has taken control of the company. I still drive for them, but only until I have fulfilled my agreement of service to satisfy the training fee obligation. It isn't as bad as some companies, but, this being my first venture into this line of work, it also has lots of smoke and mirrors that I don't believe people should have to deal with. Promises of 38000 dollars your first year are totally unrealistic. The ads that say "62000 dollars is not enough" that we find in the truckstop publications are deliberate misrepresentations that experienced drivers may know to be false, but us "lowly newbies" read and believe and then we venture off into careers with unrealisic expectations followed by months of disappointment and frustration. I am certainly thankful for the opportunity to drive for "one of the best", only saddened by the fact that this is considered one of the best.
Also, whispers, you stated that your husband started in April 2005, yet in the beginning of this thread you stated that hubby had recently started with Roehl, which was dated Aprill 2004. It really isn't a big thing, but 2 years of experience with a company would carry more weight with me as far as things get better with time with this company.
I am sorry for the extensive reply, but I can't tell you how sad I am for all of the industry when Over the Road drivers are expected to be away from family and friends for extended periods and expected to settle for much less than is advertised in brochures. Again, if this is one of the best, I truly feel sorry for the others.

Only strange thing about the truckwash policy is that you do it yourself at the terminals.Thats not so strange.

Look at it as a way to get trained and gain the needed experience to get a position with a local company who's pay is hopefully closer to what you're looking for.
Roehl does say in the recruiting brochure, "We see those ads, too. Companies promising solo drivers 3000 miles or more per week. But take out your pencil and calculator, and it's clear those kind of claims aren't very realistic. With speed limits and regulated hours of operation, 3000 miles per week is simply not going to happen week after week."
Roehl does have attainable bonuses, and I know they fire people who falsify information, so if you're having trouble with something that's policy and not being delivered upon, keep after it. They don't stay in business by shafting employees.
And I think the reason most people quit driving for them is the same reason most people quit driving for any otr-type carrier; it's a lifestyle, not a job, and not a whole lot of people want to do it long term.

Good luck with your evolution 2 training. I hope that everything goes the way you hope in your career with Roehl.
I felt the way you did 7 months ago. Funny, the only thing that has changed is that I have actually been doing the job and comparing what actually IS versus what was promised. I hope your experience is better than mine.

I hope my experience is better than yours, too. Perhaps in the future things will improve for you. In any event, there's no such thing as a permanent situation. You can jump ship when the time is right, and take all that you've learned with you. That's nothing to take lightly. Best of luck to you.

He started in April 2006 after being with JB Hunt which almost put us in the poor house. Sorry I forgot that this is 2007. I'm a year behind. Sorry for your unhappiness with Roehl. We just got his w-2 forms and for 8 months of work he grossed a little over 32,000.00. Good luck with the next company you work for. By the way I went back to my first posting in this thread where I stated my husband just started with Roehl and it's dated 4/22/06.
