I've been following a good tip from a friend of mine when I eat at truck stops (about once a month). Order a meal that re-heats well, and get the soup and salad bar with it. Stuff yourself on soup and salad for the meal, and take the dinner out in a box for later. Those buffet prices are insane for what they put out. I'd never pay $14 for stale meatloaf and fried chicken. The few times I've gotten those, I made sure it was all fresh first, and I used up at least 5 plates and a soup bowl :-D

Be careful about how you eat. It's what's killing a lot of drivers.

I would guess the guy went out of business. Looks like he made quite a few bad business decisions.

You would be wrong, Machine. However, like MM said, it's not our place to comment on what we know.

I'm going to take the time to thank those like Pharm and MM who have shared their business with the forum. You have undoubtedly helped many aspiring O/O's better understand the obstacles encountered in the industry.

Omasdaddy and Ben Around Thank this.

I drove a few months with an experienced driver who turned me on to many smart tricks of the trade. There are so many details in everyday operation. Knowing how to deal with them saves time, money and professional relationships. In today's economy, those things make all the difference. A lot is common sense. But, I have to beat common sense into the heads of a lot of "experienced" drivers I hire. And what broker is going to give you a load with no experience or references !!!!

All of em, if your gonna cover their load! The very first load I hauled under my own authority was 2 days after it was granted. They did not ask for anything but my insurance and my authority. It was a flatbed load paying 1.60/ mi so I dont think it was a "crap" load off the load board (as some will tell you). Of the 15 brokers I hauled for only 1 asked for references, and I put down a couple of the other brokers that I used. Sorry to be a smart ### but that is the gods honest truth!

    Gears Thanks this.
