Hi. New driver here- just started 6 months ago as a regional driver. When I was hired as a regional, I was told I could expect 2200 miles a week. The most miles I’ve ever received was a little over 2000 and that’s not regular. This past week I’ve been given local loads and my miles were only around 900 miles. I cannot survive getting paid regional rates doing local work for Schneider. I have never gotten a raise either. I am wondering if higher advertised miles and pay is typical norm in the industry or if this practice is isolated to certain companies. I am going to start looking into other options since I’m now at 6 months but any advise on if info listed in job descriptions are accurate? Thank you.
Do most companies Throttle miles?

Recruiters' job is to get people signed up and hired. Generally they promise the world and tell you what you want to hear. It's always a good idea to talk to current drivers at any company you are applying to in order to get a more realistic story.
if you can, try to stick it out for a full year. I realize there's still six months to go until that time. But if you can make it one year with one company with no accidents and no tickets, the driving world will open its doors for you. You will have a lot more options at a lot better companies.Coolbreezin and aussiejosh Thank this. -
Many manufacturing companies shut down for the week from Christmas to New Years. They are going to do their inventory for the year end audit and it is easier if nothing is manufactured. Now you are faced with the two worst months of the year, January and February plus a freight market that is a DISASTER with no end in sight. Owner operators are turning in their operating authority at record levels.

I’m running regionally also get two day off every week. So I’m driving 5 days and they have very hard time getting my mileage above 2100. The crazy part is they are now complaining they need to get the fleet average up because they are losing money.
We have a guaranteed minimum pay and when I started they said we didn’t have worry about the miles. They don’t seem to change the way they dispatch the trucks to get more miles. We lose to much time at drop and hook and live load or live unload in my opinion -
We warn new drivers to beware of Schneider pay, but most don't listen.
They're so excited to have their first trucking job.
Schneider drivers that have worked there in the past warned them.FearTheCorn, MSWS, JSanborn103 and 1 other person Thank this. -
My company also changed the pay structure also. We use to get pay only by the mile and now they pay use for every drop and hook and live load or unload. Plus $20 per hour detention pay after 1 hour. They also pay us when truck is in the shop for repairs. My rate per mile is less, but at the end of week all the extra stuff adds up. It never seems like it enough pay for the job

Whenever you're working local, ask for hourly pay. If work is slow in your region, ask to go to a region where it is busy. Tell them what you want they cannot read your mind. Trucking is the birthplace of the squeaky wheel getting the grease!
