I pray for the Volvo...I've heard they are underpowered, but when you're governed at 65, who cares? I want the amenities of the Volvo I've heard about...

As long as the volvo doesnt have a volvo motor then they're alright. Had one that had a cummins in it and it wasnt to bad, drove one with that nasty green motor and wow week all around. Volvo motors are gutless, have no power on the jakes so you have to go even slower than everyone else. Get me a volvo with a cat motor in it now that would be a comfortable truck that backs on a dime compared to the rest of the trucks out there.

    Try 62 I run at 65 because I am training with a L/O.

Swift mostly runs 400 Cummins ISX's in all the trucks. I have seen some 430 Detroits in the Freightliners.

What sucks is the 8 speeds. When running through Utah on I70 yesterday I had to drop down to 6th # 31 mph to get up a couple hills. Then later I dropped into 5th crawling up I70 in Colorado. We we loaded heavy.

I run a 2008 freightliner with a 9spd. Has the detroit and it`s gutless. Anything over 20k lbs and don`t expect to get up to freeway speed anytime soon. It`s a gas guzler as well. I have yet to make it to my fuel stop without having to be opened up early. I trained on a international with a cummins and that had good power. I almost wish I grabbed a volvo cus most of them have the cummins.

A tip here. When you send in the macro 11 after fueling, always enter no. I was having lots of problems with the fuel stops until I started doing this. Now I get more fuel stops than I need. Give it a try. It might work for you, too.

    JustSonny and Cooper09 Thank this.

Thanks but I rarely get a fill up fuel stop so that`s never really a issue. THe problem is my truck is gutless and just drinks the gas anytime there is a load on it. I can get 6mpg if I`m lucky on a load. The international I trained on would be almost 8mpg would be able to start in 3rd where i have to start in 2nd and creep up the hils at 35mph even on small hills where the international would pull up most of the ones i can`t in 7th gear no problem. It`s a equipment inssue for sure, the detroit engines suck period.

The new feightshakers have MAJOR problems. My Columbia has been in the shop 5 times in this last year and only has 150k on the clock.

    1 - throttle body
    2-4 injector harness
    5 recall for lights

It is a gutless turd that gets worse mpg's than my old FLD120 (I miss that truck). I would take a rattle-dash Volvo over it ANY day.

Not to mention the other trucks in our fleet having issues including the driver side door on one going up in flames.:biggrin_2551:

It seems like to me that what truck you get and it's quality (amenities, maintenance issues, power) is luck of the draw. It seems like there isn't a clearly bad brand or a clearly good one. This is all a conclusion I've come to purely by these forum posts and we all know that one person's opinion of something may be 100% different than the next guy. My opinion will surely change as I gain first-hand experience.
