I think its time to upgrade to a newer truck,my old fld, even though it never let me down and still doing the job,its getting old and the imperfections inside and out will require too much money and time to get where i feel good about myself and the truck going down the road.
Enjoying the reliability of this beast for 16 years made me very reluctant and scared of new trucks and can’t make a clear decision on what to get as far as truck brand, engine etc.
My newer truck must be 2008 and newer,im working with $90k budget and i prefer a mid roof and 13/18 speed manual.
After doing some research i ended up with two choices 2020 freightliner sd122 500 hp dd15 200k something miles or freightliner coronado glider(different mileage and years) s60 detroit 500hp.
If you were in my shoes what will be your choice or will you go another route?
Your input is very appreciated.
Im scared

Coronado glider all day long. I own 2 Western Stars. A 2013 glider and a 2019 5700xe. The glider will be cheaper and easier to repair. The 2020 will be quieter.

Most will probably say s60. But it was discontinued on 2011.
The dd15 is still in production.
I don't mind older stuff. But when parts start getting hard to find.
The dd15 probably has more power and better economy too. But the s60 is probably more reliable.
It's a toss up.gentleroger, Rideandrepair and zinita17601 Thank this. -

Get the Coronado. We have 2 of them. It is one of the nicest trucks Freightliner made. Seris 60 were great engines, IMO the 12.7 was a little peppier than the 14 liter, and it has a way better Jake, but neither one would scare me at all. We have 1 dd15, jury still out on whether it stays, it gets worse fuel economy than my 3406 B CAT. Power isn’t too bad…. As far as parts for the series 60, you won’t have a problem getting them for years to come, and if you want an awesome Detroit mechanic, try Leid Diesel Service out by Carlisle, PA. They are wizards with s60s, and even have their own machine shop to make some of their own parts.

They might be in Newville? Not 100% certain, been there several times, and know a lot of guys that have used them. It’s a family owned business, nothing corporate, but their work and service are 2nd to none. One of the boys of the family actually machined a series 60 down to where it would fit in his Ford ranger

To answer your question 2020 freightliner sd 122 under 300 k miles is around $89k
Freightliner coronado ranges from $50k to $100k depending on the year and mileage.
I didnt look into warranties and origins yet since i was not sure which will be a better choice.
Will be putting a good down payement, finance the rest and pay the truck asap, nothing i hate more than debt.Rideandrepair and Vampire Thank this.
