Provided your safety record has been good....if a starter carrier is made fully aware of both your military & civilian CDL experiences -- I would be more than astonished to find out that you had not been accepted, especially after the appropriate paperwork review.

I ran team in 1999/2001 often my co drivers would oversleep at switch points and ask me how the F did they sleep so long . I would tell them I drove like my newborn baby was in the bunk. Gentle starts and stops plenty of following distance to reduce quick brakes . I felt I accomplished driving proper if my co driver got a good sleep. Don’t get caught up in the rat race driving style and you’ll do fine with almost any trainer.
gentleroger, tarmadilo and Numb Thank this. -
I'm actually going to look into renewing my twic next week though. I may have to drive up to Jacksonville Florida from the space coast where I am now but I'm taking a week off between my weekday job and the school so I can do that then. That will work out good though since I can swing by my old army unit and see if I can get the record of when I did the hazmat course so I can take that and get that endorsement right away since it's a direct transfer to the civilian endorsement.
I'm going to be busy on that week off lolLast edited: Mar 15, 2024

One of the more useful bits of wisdom I've picked up along the way is that it's not only possible, but often necessary, to be able to have a productive working relationship with someone you don't particularly like or respect.
It's a roll of the dice whether you get a good trainer or not. Hopefully you will, But either way, what's important is that the trainer has something you want - the knowledge and skills needed to have a successful career as a driver. It's your assignment to manage the relationship in a way that gets you what you need. Depending on the situation, you might need a thick skin, or to bite your tongue, or be more assertive, or ask a lot of questions, or kiss some rear end. Regardless, this is a purely transactional relationship. You're there for one reason, and you shouldn't let anything distract you from it. And it will be over soon, so you want to take as much from the experience as you can.trkrmichael, gentleroger, tscottme and 2 others Thank this. -
Sanford, FL is a good location. Many companies won't hire below Interstate-4 so Sanford is a good location.
