There are people who care and if they don't accomplish a lot it's not for lack of trying. In our gravel pit, our truck yard, our office, and our shop there are signs that say English only spoken here.
We've caught some flak for that but it was necessary. I was at the gravel pit one morning and counted six different languages being spoken by the drivers waiting to load. The only time they deigned to speak English was when they communicated with the loader and even that was at a bare minimum and almost impossible to understand.. The level of confusion and the constant high pitched babble contributed nothing of any value.
I put the signs up the next day. If the drivers couldn't comply they were signed out. By ten o'clock we had everybody speaking English and getting things done.
Did we catch some criticism? You better believe it. It was worth it. Our employees love it.
And, before somebody thinks we're a bunch of knuckle dragging troglodytes, 75% of our employees are Native American, and the rest are Hispanic and white people. They all speak English. Fluently.

I was in the Evanston WY scale a couple weeks ago when this Russian driver was struggling to answer the DOT lady's questions. She was incredibly patient as he tried to work his smart phone as a translator to communicate. The other DOT guy was on the phone with someone about an oversize load. Pretty soon there was a line of five or six of us waiting, and then another guy came out and dismissed us unless we needed permits, so we all left. The Russian guy was still trying to get past question two from the lady.

And is that even enforced? Especially in Texas. It is illegal for someone with an Intrastate only restriction to haul any fright that either originated outside of that particular state or has a destination out of state. So that would eliminate any cross border freight.

My juvenile self never fails to laugh at the emergency pilot's smile when the flight attendant had to do emergency inflation.

And please, stop calling me Shirley!

Thanks for the link, I had heard of the crash over here at the time, but not the details described in that link. What sentence was he given finally, or is it still ongoing?

I read the entire article. There is no mention of Aguilera-Mederos having an intrastate CDL. Texas gave him an interstate CDL even though he couldn't read or speak English. They do it every day they issue CDLs.

"Lakewood police determined he had a valid commercial driver’s license from Texas and is in the U.S. legally with a green card."
