I see a lot of companies under the bad trucking company forum. I want to know how you spot a bad trucking company. Are there specific things that make up a bad trucking company or is it the companies total package.

I agree, lies or broken promises would do it for me. If you tell me I can get home every weekend, then keep me out for 3 weeks, I'm outta there. Or tell me I will make $XX per mile, but then the pay stub says something else.

Well, i believe it depends on the person to be honest. If you roll hard, deliver your loads on time, and dont have too much of a time frame to be home, you will make money with any company. On the other hand there are those companys that no matter what you do you can never see eye 2 eye. Its the drivers choice to get on! Or get rollin.

Just want to say thanks to all you hard working truckers, that are on the road rollin hard to support there families! God bless

Ya gotta realize that one person's bad company can be somebody else's dream job.

Bad equipment with unrelaiable maintenance, crappy paying loads, sitting around waiting instead of running, and being lied to are the biggies for me

Ungodly slow trucks (65 MPH or below without good pay to make up for it)

Shady shops that want to to run raggety trucks down the road that are falling apart at the seams, or get them back to a terminal when you're 1000+ miles from home when you have a maintenance problem.

Favoritism with dispatchers giving out loads

Sitting for days and not getting paid

Idiotic log book, fueling and routing requirements that save the company $$$ but ruin the driver's chance of getting a decent paycheck.

Any company that does its wn lease purchase or training program

Most companies with more than 500 trucks and any company with more than 1000 trucks (Wal-mart excluded)

The biggest reason why I jumped companies when I was a company driver was everything used to start out okay, They would keep to the agreed upon miles, home time, everything... Then things would change.. You'd see them trying to keep you out longer for instance.. (Say I was hired and they hired me and told me I got home every 1.5 to 2 weeks and was off for 2-3 days.

Later on down the road they were trying to make it more days out less days home.. or less money each week, more miles , same pay per mi. Lots of reasons can cause you to leave..

Most are changes made by the company AFTER your hired, They seem to not stick with the agreed upon rules as to which you were hired.. I once worked for a co. that I was gone for 2 months right off the bat.. (New to co.) not wanting to be to be to inflexable I said nothing .. after 2 months, I cracked, and said can I go home now?? I've been out a real long time.. They got me headed there.. Good.. now as per their co. policy which was 1.5 - 2 days off per week out I was looking forward to a good 7-10 days off.. Nope.. in 2 days they called me up and said "We've got a load for you!" Man, was I ticked off... That'll never happen ever again...

I also belive a dispatcher can either make you or break you. Some are good, some care and can relay that through the Qcomm... BUT beware, it is easy to missunderstand things on the Qcomm..way too easy.. I got in HUGE fights over this and quit over that dam Qcomm.. Sure it can be a great tool, but when a co. uses it to arm chair quarterback you and tries to drive your truck for you from the office.. That's the last straw.. I don't need a babysitter holding my hand all the way every day on every load... That is not a dispatchers job...

Just a few examples that came to mind.
