I see so often people complaining about how they were lied to from their company. I say 'buyer beware'. All businesses seem to deceive the buying public. (car dealers, retail stores, contractors, restaurants, whatever). It's called small print, you are being sold and told about the good things and the bad things are left out. Like a real estate agent showing you a home, are they mentioning the leaky faucet, noisy neighbors, this and that etc? Noooooooo, not quite.

    JustSonny and MUSTANGGT Thank this.

Add in Armed Forces Recruiters, pharmacuetical companies, advertisers , even relatives and almost any entity wanting something from another human being, whether it be their money or their employment.
For some reason, many truckdrivers expect the trucking industry to be different.

I just have to jump in and throw my 2 cents in for the military recruiters.. I was in the military for 13 years and tried my damdest to get through recruiting school.. I volunteered (Some may not realize this but the military forces some people to do this against their will)

It's not an easy class to breeze through, my brain turned to mush trying to memorize all the junk they required you to.

So having said that, it's also different in the recruiting world vs the trucking world because there are quotas in the military.. They keep changing from individual quatas to "recruiting station" quatas, there are advantages and disadvantages to both I won't go into here.. Lets just say some guys slack off and let the good recruiters do all the work..

So, yes, it's common to throw military recruiters under the bus and make them the same as everyone else (one of the bad guys who LIE, cheat, steal to get you in) Times have indeed changed. In todays electronic age it's about imposible to fudge a document, signature, without it being discovered.. (Does it happen? I would say yes, but not as often as you might think.. A soldier isn't going to risk his whole career on 1 stupid mistake).

The same general rule of any good businessman applies to you if you are military, or civilian.. If you are told somthing.. Get it in writing! (If your military make sure you get a dozen copies made and keep the original for yourself haha)..

I am an Army veteran myself Gonzo. I didn't mean to "throw military recruiters under the bus".
I think of them more as salespeople with a quota, which you told us they have.
All I'm saying is people in that position tend to paint a rosy picture.

Im probably not much help because ive been with the same company for 15 years but a good or bad company depends on what exactly your doing. There's reefer companies that suck, dry van, flatbed, tanker and anything else you could think of. On that same point there's companies in whatever division that are great, it just depends on what you put into it and your expectations out of it. Truckings NOT 8-5 for newbies that dont know. It can be extremely stressful at times and make you smile ear to ear sometimes. Im a heavy hauler and have been since 88. Ive been with lonestar transportation out of fort worth, tx since 1995. Freights been slow for a LONG while now but even the company trucks are slow. Im still making money just not what i used to but its nothing to cry about. Figure what you want to do, then find a good company by reviews.(not their reviews either, by forums just like this) There's a company out there for every GOOD driver, supertruckers are up a sh*tcreek without paddle on this one.
