Just figured I'd let you guys know an update I'm almost a year at May trucking company! great company, though pay is not so great. I will have a Nevada license in September. Just trying to figure out what I'm going to do next. 900 before tax is taken out seems a little too low, but I'm new so I don't really know.

What is top cruise-control speed for May trucks?

Once you get a full year in, more doors will open up for you. Heck, some doors are open already.

You could try testing the waters, start checking out other companies, maybe put in some apps. Maybe even ask for a raise where you are (especially once you have some other offers in hand).

OTOH, people on here are all saying that the economy is bad and trucking is bad, so keep that in mind. Some times any job at all is better than none.

Having said that, I'm not a fan of these companies taking advantage of drivers and paying peanuts. Maybe you can upgrade, either in terms of pay, home time, equipment, lanes, etc.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Well I did get a brand new 2024 Freightliner got it with 15 miles on it.
And home time is no problem with May
Plus I get paid a daily rate so that's good when I'm waiting at shippers forever.

I will just mention, since I see you are also out of Florida (I am as well).

I am currently in a job search, I've had to put in quite a few more apps than I thought would be necessary. I still haven't been hired, but feel like I am getting close with at least one company. Just keep that in mind, maybe there is something to this "soft market" talk. Especially for us coming out of Florida.

I'm not saying not to look for something better (in fact I think you should). Just that you should tread carefully, make sure it's a legit offer, etc. before you make the leap. And don't burn any bridges (put in notice, etc.).

Good luck, driver. Let us know what happens.

    Do you have endorsements?
    Do you want local/regional/OTR?
You'll have 12 mos. experience, right?

No I don't have any endorsements yet.
I plan on getting all of them though.
In October I'll have 12 months experience
OTR, I would be fine with regional as well. I still have my shepherd, So I got to look for companies that accept that. Leasing a truck is not a good idea right?
I've been told it is a horrible idea. Hah
