Volvo, has been using 24v systems in their European models for many years, so it's not exactly something totally new for them. Damlier does too in their Mercedes trucks over there.

Since it's a 24v system via having the batteries in series, I wonder if it requires a 24v alternator. If so, that means repair shops will have to keep both in stock. I can see a highly qualified T/A parts changer getting confused and put a 24v on a 12v truck and burning it downwulfman75, cdavis188 and hope not dumb twucker Thank this. -

Will deliver this load Saturday, then I get a couple weeks of cake duty. The elevator planner that's in Toledo all but begged me to help out at the Otis plant in Florence. No elevator loads to customer site deliveries. Basically work the yard and shuttle dryvan loads to an offsite location. M-F 7-3, weekends off. Not as good of pay as OTR, but couple it with what miles I have turned so far this pay period, I will end up grossing about $4400 if I work the rest of the month there. I told her I would commit to at least to one week, if I still have my sanity after that, then I will finish out the rest of the month, but that's it. I hate that plant with a passion, and dislike Otis in general (one if the few customers I don't like pulling for) but Toledo has always treated me good, so I will suck it up and help out.

Id have told her Ill help but you need to pay me my average pay from the last four weeks while I am playing yard jockey or make the pay match 1 weeks vacation pay

I haven’t done anything like that but I know for a while they were using otr drivers to cover the weekend shifts at the plant because the guys working the dock didn’t want to work overtime. It was some of the best money I made for just sitting in a truck and occasionally moving a trailer. We never left the plant.
I haven’t heard them advertise for a dock worker position in a while so maybe they are all filled. I never understood why they couldn’t fill that job, it was paying $70k+. Supposedly, they're in the process of hiring 2 people for this. One is flying into Arlington next week for orientation, the other is going thru the hiring process. Like every other pay package, they aren't paying it like they used to. The set pay rate is $3000 gross per pay period, so yes, it's low $70's/year. But with all the b.s. it sounds like you have to deal with...I wouldn't do that job full time if you doubled it.Last edited: Oct 18, 2024
