Basically you screwed your company over. Worst case they’ll end up going bankrupt after getting sued.
Doubtful anyone else will risk their business for you.

Who are these fellas saying that op is at fault getting hit after he put out the triangles on the shoulder, and not the guy who hit him, likely playin with his phone while driving? Must be those Swift or Prime driving school graduates, driving 57 mph on I 80 in Nebraska to get mpg bonus.
Pulling over the shoulder and checking the truck right after hitting debris, like a gator or some other sharp crap is something I would've done too.
Better be on the shoulder than stalled in a travel lane.
I don't know about those parked regens, the ones I was having I was able to ignore and move on.
So, poor excuse to sit on the shoulder, if you can move on but saying that you're at fault of getting hit because you're there with the triangles out, is just as lame.Last edited: Nov 19, 2024
Gearjammin' Penguin and bryan21384 Thank this. -
everyday I move over for “broke down” trucks that pass by me later that day. It’s especially frustrating when I’m 16’ wide and HAVE to move over a lane, even when going significantly slower then traffic or I will have a collision with the mega fleet dummy on the side of the road.
how many times have you seen trucks stopped in front of a freaking open rest area or off ramp? Way too many times to count.
these companies should be training their drivers (I should stop the sentence right there) that if your truck can move at all, there’s pretty much no reason to stop on the side of the ####ing interstate. Drag that flat tire or what ever to the next off ramp, maybe there will be a truckstop to park at.TripleSix, Albertaflatbed, REO6205 and 4 others Thank this. -

I really don't see the fault in pulling over on the shoulder. It happens. Sometimes it's unavoidable. While I agree that it's safer to find an off/on ramp for parking, I think it's a little unfair to crucify the OP for parking on the shoulder for a regen. I'm a little flabbergasted that the driver that hit him is getting let off the hook in this thread. I know some companies say don't park on ramps and shoulders because of safety, but we've got into this way of thinking in which we aren't crucifying the drivers who fell asleep (because they didn't know when it was time to park and rest), or the drivers who aren't paying attention. Sure it may be ill advised to park on shoulders and ramps, but if you're driving and can't see a big 18 wheeler, than gosh darn lol.

OP is at fault for parking on the shoulder for an extended period of time without a good reason. If you hit a piece of debris in the road keep moving unless you feel something obviously wrong with the handling of the truck. Pull over at the next exit or anywhere but a shoulder and check for damage.
Then they decided to check the DPF guage and saw it was half full so they decided that they had to sit there an do a manual regen for some reason. The truck wasn't in derate and even if it was they could've kept moving to a safe parking place to do the regen.
My truck went into stage 1 derate a couple months ago from a fouled EGR sensor. I drove it 2000 miles home like that and had my local shop fix it. It wouldn't let me do a manual regen and I wasn't going to sit in a hotel while they figured it out. Stage 1 derate is just 25% power reduction. No reason you can't drive like that.
The other driver is also at fault for not paying attention and hitting something parked on the side of the road.
OP is taking the blame from their company because they didn't have a good enough excuse for sitting on the side of the highway.
I would fire them too if manual regen was the reason they were sitting and got hit. Especially if they didn't bother to call anybody and ask for help. -
So, is "fired from Western Express" likely going to make it harder for him to find anything decent??

Shoulder of the road is no place for something like that. I guess common sense has been lost
