I did some digging, I think I have the answer.

Improved visibility for the driver, and better maneuverability in tight spaces on construction sites.

    It's a "U Model" if it's a truck tractor.

    It's a "DM" Model if it's a dump body.

    It's a "DMM" Model if it's a ready-mix truck.

I think it can also be a "DM" if it has a refuse collection body, but not 100% sure. Still chasing that one down.

Finally home, having mashed potatoes, courtesy of Missus Skillet, and honey baked ham, courtesy of The Borg.

I found the coupon they gave me last year. Free ham!

I know on the DM (same offset cab) they used to advertise visibility on the drivers side around construction sites……

The U model was their freight truck and the R model was styling…. :)

Dmm is a set back front axle and lots of times is all wheel drive. You can have a DM concrete mixer. Or even a R model. The body is irrelevant . All models could be truck or tractor.

The difference between the DM and U is basically the specs. U is generally lighter frame and axles and springs. It’s the freight hauler . The DM has double frame 55k or 65K camelback springs etc

A DM mixer I used to drive as a kid…….

But you’d be going into cold and snow. May freeze to almost death and almost die. Possibly in a snow bank. Maybe rethink that.
