I applied to swift as 2 year experienced driver with no accidents and clean mvr. I made it to orientation by bus (5hrs there and 5 back smh). Anyways, I completed both days, filled out all paperwork, passed drug screens and road test. I take the bus back to go home and the next day after orientation I get a message from swift saying my application was declined bc I’m “not qualified” no one gave me an actual answer. I called and asked if I will get paid for orientation, they then told me no. I must be hired to get paid for it. Could I file a wage claim or no?
Am I supposed to get paid for this or no?

AZ labor dept should be who you ask
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
Typically no, but it varies by state. As stated, check with your state labor board.

Over the past several years I have spoken about databases. One such database that gets more applicants' job offers rescinded is the CLUE insurance database. I am still shocked that people forget these databases exist. People get all hyped up about HireRight! HireRight is just one of many databases that track people.
If this person was sent home with no job offer then they either failed to disclose something, or there was a problem of some sort that needs to be worked out. Since the OP said the message was not qualified, I can only imagine it was the former.
As to the being paid? Every state has its own rules! What Ohio does may not be the same as Georgia or Texas.LilRedRidingHood Thanks this. -

It sucks not getting paid, but I'd be more concerned with why they decided you weren't qualified. Unless it was something you did, or didn't do, at orientation, it will probably come up again with another employer.
As a side note, this is a perfect example of why drivers WHO CAN should avoid companies that make you ride the bus and/or share hotel rooms. Setting aside the fact that they're basically calling you trash, they're also telling you that they're trying to minimize costs, possibly because they plan on cutting a bunch of drivers. If I'm going to invest a week of my time, travel there, as well as risk being sent home with no job or paycheck, I want them to have some skin in the game too.Peplow, Iamoverit, lual and 1 other person Thank this.
