I been told that OmniTracs is not compatible with 5G. So just like you said, unless they do something to integrate back into the times; they are being rendered obsolete.

Like Bryan said, Omnitracs is just dated and lacking on features for the 'new age' for a decent sized fleet.

Like on Samsara, we can scan bills, send in pictures of trailer damages, inspection reports, can send in mechanical issues that go directly to the shop, etc. Cuts down on hunting down emails and making phone calls just to find out where to send simple things.

I've noticed with some of our brokers, our arrival and departure times are automatically sent to them. It also uses geofencing to auto detect arrival and departure.

Ties in with the cameras and safety automatically, so any "coaching" is done on Samsara as well.

My only real peeve is that the 14hr shift clock on Samsara adjusts to whatever you have left on your 70. Obviously you still have a 14hr shift, but if you have 8 hours on your 70, the 14hr clock will read 8 hours for some reason. Still operates like normal, but I think it should show 14 since that clock is independent of the 11hr/70hr rules. Have to do mental gymnastics sometimes if you're doing splits or recapping to figure out what's left on your 14 if you're low on hours.

From what I heard, Omnitracks is getting out of the business.

Averitt is dropping onmitracs too. Not sure what they're going to but it's supposed to be some kind of tablet based system so that its compatible with all of their divisions.

Good to know someone likes working for them. Le Mars, IA is a ghost town. Never drove a truck there that had under 300k miles on it. Constant breakdowns. Crabby dispatchers with zero respect for the driver.

How long do you typically stay out before going home? Sounds like you run some pretty tall miles .

I stay out 5-6 weeks and then go home for a week usually. Miles slowed down a bit in December for the holidays as expected, but things are headed back to normalcy

I’ve heard there was a time here where it was a little rougher around the edges lol. I’ve only had one dispatcher since I’ve been here, and we get along well, so I might’ve gotten lucky. They have moved to a 2 year trade cycle though, so would be hard to find a truck over 300k now, at least.

Lucky you. Lot of their trucks on the highway still look high mileage.
