US: 5,000 Warplanes Left to Rot in Arizona Desert

But, I remember an article/articles years ago saying that kind of desert air was best for the planes. Something to do with the atmosphere as to why they don’t just rust and crumble….

 

It is a museum you can go to visit.. there is also a boneyard over in Goodyear az of all the commercial liners that have been retired.. just sitting out in a field

 

Maybe because the are mostly made of aluminum and titanium.

Desert air doesn’t have as much moisture/humidity,which makes it ideal for aircraft storage.

 

Neat but sad place. Lots of history sitting out there . As far as using any of it , nope , most of those planes are far from usable and would take lots of money and time and parts ( most which are not made anymore ) to make flyable . (A7 - A6's).
Same with all those ships in storage on both coasts.
If it ever came down to using any of the stored planes or ships , we'd be in a real bad spot.

Cars as well... my family bought a couple cars brand new back in the 60s and they still don't have any rust on em.. helps we don't have road salt either
