I'll dig it up tonight if I remember, but when you read the guidance, if it's your normal point of reporting for work, either case is legal. If it's just a nearby receiver, it's not.

tell that to motive.. I get tired of Manuel Abdul Yohammad telling me I have unassigned drive time and try to apply it as drive time.

Agreed. A handful of flexible hours to use sparingly for a month would help a ton. Happens all the time where there’s 40 miles between two stopping points. The first stop is some hole in the wall store with no showers that closes at 9pm. The second is a full-fledged truck stop with ample parking and I’m 10 minutes short to make it.

Or ending up short on time to make it to the other side of a metro area, so now you’re losing 45 minutes in traffic the next morning cause you were 5 minutes short the night before to get to the other side.

What do they mean by 'enhancing operational readiness'? I could guess but I'm sure someone knows the legit answer.

Maybe going bobtail to hook up to a trailer. That would enhance your readiness to perform your job. Where did you see that phrasing?

About halfway down in the article:

    - Prohibiting time spent in personal conveyance from counting as “off-duty” time.

    - Requesting official written guidance that states it is not acceptable to continue driving after reaching an hours-of-service limitation to get to a “safe haven” because there is no available parking.

    - Requesting clarification for “enhancing operational readiness."

    - Requesting official written guidance that states an owner-operator cannot use personal conveyance to return home or leave home.

    - Defining “yard move.”

    - Clarifying the difference between personal use and personal conveyance.

Anything that puts dispatch ahead of safety. The easiest example is needing to PC to parking. One truckstop 10 miles away in the wrong direction, another 30 miles in the needed direction. Going to the further truckstop makes the most sense, but violates the spirit of PC because you choose to enhance your operational readiness instead of choosing the closest safe location.

That general idea is why it's okay to PC home from a terminal that you're going right back to, but we're not supposed to PC home from a receiver.

I had Motive when I pulled pneumatic and hopper. If I was gonna be exempt for a while I’d log out, if it was just gonna be for a few hours I’d use PC. I never had any issue denying unassigned driving.

Positioning yourself and the equipment in a location that would be beneficial to the company and/or yourself, for what is or could become compensated work.

Example- I have a driver that lives in the Green Cove Springs, FL area. He delivers in Tampa on Friday and is going home for the weekend. Normally PC home would be fine, but we have loads coming out of Green Cove Springs area and Jacksonville regularly, if we allowed him to PC home even if he isn't under dispatch at that time he would be positioning the truck in a beneficial manner to him and us by having less dead head on Monday to pick up, and he would be compensated for the dead head from Tampa to Jacksonville on Monday, having done part of it on PC not under dispatch.

Crack down on companies redoing logs. I have read many reviews of many companies who say they edit driver logs to benefit the company. That should be illegal.
