Start this off on the laptop, so I can patch myself on with the phone to attach photos.

2015 Doonan Stretch Step Extendable, needs decking replaced - photos and jerry rigged schematics on board length and width etc to follow.

Called TNT and they're about to get back to me with a quote, after some advice on 'DIY' or 'Send it off and pick it up'.

About 300' of 7" wide and 180' of 5" wide apitong, shiplap.

Hack off the old, cut off wheel and grind, then repaint crossmembers, and replace cut to fit , new deck.

Is it worth trying to do it myself, or better off to send it to a place that does it all day long?

They ESTIMATED 40-50 hrs labor @ $115/hr for the job.

If that quote includes the apitong it's worth it IMO. That's a back breaking and time consuming job. Now's the time to do it while things are slow though. I'd try to lock them into an all in flat price of 4k if I were you.

I've replaced a bunch of floors. Not a big deal IMO. Don't worrk about the old screws, just remove the wood as fast as possible. Take a cut off wheek to the screws left behind.

Buy a handfull of good drill bits, cut new floor, use a chalk line and drill all new holes. I'd say that's a 20 hour job if you don't eff around.

Sounds high but everything is these days. I couldn't stomach paying 6k for the job personally. 4k is worth it to have a shop do it but too much than that I'd just do it myself. It's not rocket science but you're going to feel it.

I don’t think 50 hours is outta line. Day to strip. Day to prep. Day the cut and fit boards. Probably 2 days to screw it down.

The big time saver is marking where the old screws are in the crossmembers. You toast a new bit in 2 seconds when you hit an old screw. Some steel drills much easier than others.

My knees hurt just looking at it. Maybe a tad easier than roofing.

Had the roof replaced this year - 2400 sq ft house, tear off one layer on 50% - 2 layers the rest.

Re - deck 3 or 4 sheets, flashing, rolled roofing underlay on the shallow pitch that was causing problems.

Local roofer/friend. $15k. Day and a half in between weather - 3 guy crew.

And if there’s ever a problem - he, or his son will be here within a day to guarantee it.

I got up there and helped tear off, and spread shingles ahead of the nailer. Learned a lot.

TNT has a platform rental side - the owners son that I talked to said they replace their rental fleet decks every 5-7 years, and the apitong lasts about 10 years well looked after.

His ballpark was 45-55 hours labor exclusive of materials.
