If the insurance company can’t catch it what makes you think we can do? Of course there were signs that we have missed and at the end of the day we are all a human. Lesson learned for sure

I'd just consider it a lesson learned and revamp your background check processes, etc. Don't let accountability be your kryptonite. All the Best

His references came back clear so that’s why we didn’t suspect anything. I think there’s a big scam going on with the trucking industry for sure

Did you call the state police and make a complaint, or did you just mention it to someone?

I am hard on you because it is YOUR JOB to stop this from happening, the regulations are clear that YOU are responsible.

It isn't hard to confirm the MVR; we pull them ourselves because of this problem, and we do not depend on the driver. We also copy the license front and back, and if it looks like it is altered, then the cops are called.

I made a police report the moment I found out that’s what was going on. The bmv can’t do nothing neither can the fmcsa. At this point it seems like no matter how much I try to do the right thing no actions are being taken against this.

So did you run his mvr prior to hiring him?

I don't think you are getting what I am saying, so I would suggest you talk to your lawyer to get a hiring system in place so it can meet all the regulations and protect you from legal actions against you for hiring another driver.

Hi, I'd like apologize for some of the commenters here, everybody an expert on this site, and "advice" can be on all ends of the spectrum. Not bad advice, just when asking a question like this, you will get 3 pages of replies, some pertinent, some, like me, don't know their aXX from 3rd base. I think you found out just who is out there driving our trucks today. I witnessed an accident with a truck, turns out, the driver had NO CDL, or logs of any kind. The company denied knowing about it, but I'm sure THAT driver went someplace else. There was a time, a time most here herald from, you could literally hire just about anyone, with good results. Today, trucking has become the "last game in town", and companies are hiring felons for heavens sake, something expressly forbidden years ago, now seemingly okay. I will agree with most here, if you are hiring a driver, you MUST be diligent in checking everything, and go with a current drivers reference for someone, but if you drag anyone in, be ready for disappointment. Best of luck, I think you did enough.

I really appreciate it. No one is perfect and at the end of the day you learn a lesson from here. In my years of operating my company I have never seen this type of stuff happen and that’s why it took me by surprise. I guess these are the type of people our families are on the road with and it’s a scary thought.
