My previous truck would do that sometimes. I got rid of it by shutting the truck off, cycling the key five times to reset everything, then starting the engine.

When I moved into this newer truck in November, I was told that cycling the key five times won’t do anything like it did in previous years. Instead, to reset this one, I shut the truck off, wait for the instrument cluster to black out, open the door for a few seconds, close the door, then restart the engine.

Along with the sensor/software update, I’ve heard that a transmission fault message could be a bad shift stalk and that it’s a quick thing to replace.

I had the gear selector stalk replaced on a 579 with like 120k miles on the truck. I'm not sure why they can't just build them to last. Especially since Peterbilt is replacing them under warranty on their dime.

Yep shifter stalk I am also on my second replacement stalk and had the clutch replaced at 180000.
Truck just turned 400000 this week and is doing good so far but I still despise the transmission hate how they have it programmed to start off in 2nd gear up from there.

I need to tap into your pump truck experience in case I encounter this in the future. I picked up an empty whiskey tank in Bradenton, FL this evening. I pushed my trailer knob in to air up the bags while I was doing my walk around. When I got back in the truck, I noticed it was taking longer than normal to build up air. So, I got out again to make sure the airbags were ok. I heard an air blower-like sound coming from inside the rear box. Since it was empty and I’m just taking it to the terminal, I cut the seal on the back to open the doors and have a look. Air was coming out of this black hose below the arrow in the picture. (top left, looks like it belongs on the valve below it) I traced it backwards with my hand, thinking it would lead to a valve, but I didn’t feel comfortable messing with anything. I decided to leave it alone to prevent any of the plumbing from accidentally becoming pressurized. What are your thoughts?

The latest software update removed the skip shifting. It annoys me also, but I will take that over transmission errors leaving me dead in the water.

I really am hoping for one of the Freightliners as my next truck.

Never seen a hose loose like that. I bet that loose end connects to the internal tank valve. Some whiskey tanks need air supplied to the trailer to keep that internal valve open.

I believe @Redtwin is correct about that. Looks like it's for the internal valve in the tank. That would probably need to be fixed ASAP since the valve might not work and the trailer wouldn't be able to be loaded/unloaded without being able to open the internal valve. I've also never seen an IRT trailer with that setup from what I can remember but I don't know... maybe I have once or twice. It's been a while though.

IMG_8607.jpeg Looks like it possibly popped off of that piece in the back. Looks like an air actuated line for an internal switch maybe.
